Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion seeks a thought leader as the
new director of the American Indian Resource Center at the
University of Utah. We are seeking a director who will transform
the center into a cultural space that elevates the sovereignty of
tribal nations. In this role, they may be called to lead special
projects and advise both the President and Vice President
for EDI on matters addressing the needs of Indigenous,
American Indian, and Native students, staff, faculty, and external
communities. The new AIRC director will have the
opportunity to build new structures and grow programs that serve
all American Indian and Native students on their paths of academic
excellence and post-graduation success, while fostering their ties
to their tribes and communities.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time. Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. May be asked to work some nights and weekend hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
- Build a vibrant and welcoming community space for Native American/Alaska Native students and continue the development of the American Indian Resource Center as an academic and cultural space for rural and urban Native students through programs, strategic initiatives, and collaboration.
- Consulting with American Indian elders to engage in cultural activities.
- Develop and carry out quantitative and qualitative assessment of the center’s impact on belonging, retention, and graduation.
- Direct the annual Powwow committee to be campus led and student informed.
- Ensure that the AIRC collaborates with campus partners to sustain continuity for college access pathways for incoming students.
- Hire, supervise, and provide strategic direction to student employees (two undergraduate and one graduate student), and a full-time program coordinator.
- Provide strategic direction and work closely with AIRC faculty fellow.
- Increase college success metrics for Native students in the areas of belonging, retention, and graduation.
- Oversee the faculty fellow who will position the AIRC as a clearing house for Native faculty research and scholarship focused on the advancement of tribal communities.
- Relaunch the AIRC Advisory board and co-lead the Native Advisory Council
- Attend important tribal and community events to represent University of Utah engagement with tribal communities.
- Serve as lead to the President and Vice President for special projects focused on the advancement of Native students, staff, and faculty.
- Work closely with AIRC coordinator to establish a high impact cohort program that supports student success from start to finish through cultural and campus belonging, academic development, and post-graduation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related area, or equivalency (1 year of
college education is equivalent to 2 years of related work
experience); eight years of progressively more responsible
management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations
and effective communication skills required.
Doctorate degree with previous leadership experience, or Master’s
degree with five years experience leading a student center at a
higher education institution is preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and an understanding
of, and appreciation for cultural, ethnic, and individual
differences.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Native educational issues,
communities, and strategies for impacting academic success.
Experience in program development and implementation in a higher
education diversity support program.
Previous professional experience in a college/university setting
working with diverse U.S. College students.
