Position Summary

A Visiting Professor in the Department of Biology is a member of the teaching faculty in the School of Arts & Sciences at Fort Lewis College and will have expertise in cell and molecular biology and genetics. In addition to teaching 4 or 5 classes per semester (27 contact hours per academic year), they are expected to hold regular office hours, attend department meetings, and contribute to discussions regarding curriculum

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or ABD in Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology or a closely related field  
  • The ability to utilize your course design and personal and professional experiences to enhance a learning environment grounded in equity and inclusion   
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level 
Major Responsibilities
  • Primary teaching responsibilities will be serving as instructor in Introductory Cell and Molecular Biology and Genetics as well as other courses within their area of expertise in biological science.  
  • Teach a course load equivalent to 27 contact hours per academic year.   
  • In addition to 12-15 hours in the classroom each week, hold regular office hours each week.   
  • Attend regular department meetings which occur approximately 2 times per month.   
  • Employ best practices for culturally responsive teaching and mentoring students  
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508. 
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

The salary is $50,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
