To help further this mission, University Advancement seeks a driven, collaborative development professional to fill the newly created role of Chief Advancement Officer for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (CAO, DEI).

The uniqueness of this position will require the CAO, DEI to have formal and regular interaction with the Vice President for Strategic Affairs and Diversity, as well as the Office of Inclusion and Diversity (OID) to support the OID and University’s priorities for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Colleges and Units, the (CAO, DEI) will be responsible for:

Partnering with the Vice President for Strategic Affairs and Diversity to align fundraising efforts with VT’s Advancing Inclusion priorities by planning and implementing a collaborative and integrated approach to development, communications and engagement programs that maximizes support for the institutional and individual commitment to Ut Prosim in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence and advances Virginia Tech’s strategic priorities related to inclusion and diversity.

This position will coordinate discussions among academic leadership about individual and cross-unit collaborations essential to achieving DE&I fundraising goals.

Meet or exceed established goals and targets, including:
- Securing gifts at the major and principal gifts levels in alignment with metrics defined for this level.
- In collaboration with the AVP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for University Advancement, develop a strategy to identity, cultivate, solicit, and steward support for DEI efforts across the institution.
- Liaise with College and Unit development offices, Planned Giving, and Corporations and Foundation Relations to develop opportunities for coordinated solicitations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with significant and progressively responsible fundraising and leadership experience or a Master's degree.

Demonstrated experience leading and supporting organizational strategic diversity and inclusion goals and objectives within a higher education environment, a corporate environment, or a nonprofit organization.

Significant competency related to diversity education, facilitation and advocacy.

Demonstrated successful track record in in fundraising, alumni relations, and/or event program management.

Demonstrated capability of engaging, managing and stewarding volunteers, advisory boards, donors, and professional staff.

Must have demonstrated analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Must have strong computer skills, which should include desktop software and databases.

Proven success in collaboration, teamwork, and communications to build productive relationships with senior administrators, key business leaders, faculty, staff, institutional boards, volunteers, and/or donors, leading to their engagement and investment in priority areas.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Regional and national travel required for the purposes of conducting field research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, which may include overnights and weekends.

Must have the ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.

Ability to work nights and weekends, and participation in college or university programs when possible.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to candidates who demonstrate relevant change management experience and experience building new programs.

Success in developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies.

Preference given to candidates with experience managing volunteers and generating philanthropic support at an institution of higher learning or nonprofit organization.
