Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Vassar College Counseling Service is seeking an Assistant Director of Training. The Counseling Service provides creative, collaborative clinical service in a small, residential, liberal arts college environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and will be skilled in consultation, brief therapy models, group therapy and in providing innovative, inclusive outreach programming. S/h/ze must be able both to work independently, and cooperatively as a member of a professional team. The Assistant Director of Training provides oversight and development of the Counseling Service training program consisting of a post doctoral fellow, social work interns and/or mental health counselor interns.
Responsibilities:
  • Intake and clinical assessment; crisis intervention and triage;
  • On call rotation as back up to off site on call service and share backup crisis coverage with the Director and Associate Director; provide emergency response to campus community;
  • Brief individual psychotherapy; group therapy; consultation with campus and community members;
  • Assist with professional development trainings for in house and collaborative health and advocacy services;
  • Engage in campus committee work;
  • Provide vision, development, and oversight of the training program;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with graduate programs and manage the recruitment of training staff;
  • Support training supervisors as needed to ensure outstanding training experience;
  • Clinical supervision of post doctoral fellows/interns/new staff as needed.


This is an administrative position with a strong, primary emphasis on innovative service delivery. Some evening and weekend hours should be expected, especially involving crisis intervention, back up on call coverage, and outreach activities.
This position is a full-time, 10 month position (August 15 - June 15) and is eligible for Vassar College administrator benefits, such as health insurance, retirement, and paid vacation time.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • APA approved, PhD, PsyD, EdD in clinical or counseling psychology or clinical social worker LCSW or DSW. New York State licensed or license eligible.
  • Position requires broad, generalist clinical skills, including experience assessing and intervening with a range of disorders, concerns and degrees of pathology.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication are required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in providing clinical supervision.
  • Strong ability to work well in collaborative care teams.
  • A heightened understanding of equity and inclusion and its differential impact on communities and a commitment to celebrating diversity and multiculturalism is required.


Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with brief therapy and group facilitation in a college/university counseling service;
  • Expertise in multicultural considerations and experience working with historically underrepresented groups is highly desirable, as is expertise in men’s issues, eating disorders, trauma, and/or substance abuse.
