Position Responsibilities:

The purpose of this 12-month post-doctoral position is designed as a transition to research independence program for early career clinician scientists interested in aging research in older adults with substance use disorder (SUD). The post-doctoral trainee will be expected to create an Individuated Development Plan (IDP) defining specific goals and activities to be accomplished during the training period. Activities should align with outcome of creating and begin implementation of a program of research focused on older adults with SUD. Activities may include coursework in grant writing, community needs assessment, networking with community organizations, identifying/establishing an independent research funding source, developing clinic expertise working with older adult populations with SUD, and identifying possible employment opportunities in field of interest. Additionally, the post-doctoral trainee will be expected to contribute to the scholarship of academic-community partnerships through publication and/or presentation at selected professional conferences.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in a health-related field
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with older adult populations with high prevalence of substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do as a staff member at VCU

Salary Range: $57,000
