To provide a 24/7 comprehensive emergency communications and warning service for the University, Hospital System and the general public by receiving and dispatching calls for police and security services.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
- Must have accurate data entry experience. Valid OMV operator license.
- Must never have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude.
- Ability to perform emergency dispatch support work with accuracy, speed and minimal supervision; demonstrated ability to read and interpret agency policies, procedures, and regulations, to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations, to work in a team environment with all levels of local, state, federal, university and private sector.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions; to read maps and interpret information, route multiple incoming emergency calls and make decisions to successfully coordinate multiple functions for multiple agencies.
- Ability to analyze data in order to make decisions and maintain situational awareness across the Commonwealth.
- Ability to operate complex technological systems such as the Common Operating Picture and Crisis Management System.
- Ability to work in a 24-hour operation, 7-day rotating schedule is required.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, may be assigned mandatory overtime up to 12 hours.
- Must be able to function physically and mentally under extreme stress and during emergency situations.
- Ability to complete DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCIN Class "A" Certification within 12 months of hire.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Possession of DCJS Basic Dispatch Certification and VCIN Class "A" Certification.
- Previous Emergency Dispatching Experience.
