The Graduate School (https://gradschool.utah.edu) is seeking an experienced and talented individual for the role of Program Director for the Professional Master of Science and Technology (PMST) program (https://pmst.utah.edu). The incumbent will interact with the various levels of University leadership and will be positioned to make a strong positive impact on the University of Utah’s strategic trajectory. This full-time position reports to the Dean of the Graduate School.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and personable candidate with exceptional organizational and planning skills. The PMST Director’s efforts can be summarized across five focus areas: 1) Recruitment and Marketing; 2) Admissions; 3) Professional Experience Projects; 4) Program Management, and 5) Community and Alumni Engagement. The Director will also direct the development and staffing of the PMST program’s transferable skills courses, mentor students in the PMST degree programs, and facilitate PMST student activities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and professionally with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills.
The PMST Director has overall responsibility for the administration of the PMST program with the authority to make decisions and commitments for activities to ensure the program’s success.
The PMST Director works in collaboration with faculty
Track Directors, the Dean of the Graduate School, and other
partners to provide leadership and strategic direction to improve
program content, enrollments, and student satisfaction in
accordance with national PMST guidelines
and standards. The PMST Director also coordinates all
student services, corporate outreach, and marketing to support
program goals.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time. Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Some evenings and weekends may be required
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to the responsibilities above, the PMST Director is responsible for the following functions within the program:
- Directs the development and implementation of educational objectives that are comprehensive, appropriate, and consistent with the University of Utah’s goals and objectives through enhancement of the Exceptional Student Experience.
- Oversee the program’s affiliation with the Professional Science Masters national organization and ensures all activities and requirements regarding affiliation are met.
- Manages an operational budget and tracks expenses, performs monthly spending reviews, and completes an annual budget and forecast.
- Provides strategic direction by setting short and long-term goals, estimating staff budgetary requirements, planning space and equipment, and implementing special projects and policies.
- Develops strategies consistent with the University of Utah’s continuous quality improvement program.
- Oversees all aspects of human resource management, including recruitment and retention of assigned staff in consultation with the programs Executive Committee and Dean of the Graduate School.
- Ensures competency of supervisory staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and ongoing staff performance evaluation.
- Participates in university-wide committees to establish administrative plans and policies.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
- Responsible for community and alumni engagement activities.
- Supervises a full-time associate director, associate instructors and a part-time project coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related area,
or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted
for 1 year of education). Eight years of progressively more
responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership,
human relations and effective communications skills required.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to
patients.

PREFERENCES:
- Master’s degree in Science, Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency.
- An Advanced degree to support students in Biotechnology, Environmental Science, or Computational and Data Science preferred
- Experience working in higher education
- Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner with high-level administrators
- Project Management experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Proficiency with Canvas or similar Learning management system
- Familiarity with the University of Utah processes
- Experience in recruiting and retaining a diverse student population is preferred
