Job Summary:

Law Enforcement Dispatchers staff the 24/7 operation of the UW-Madison Police Department Communications Center. Dispatchers are formally trained to receive and evaluate information, largely via phone, related to public safety and law enforcement on or near campus. They must then dependably communicate this information to other staff responding to a variety of calls ranging from relatively minor (i.e. building access issues) to more serious emergencies.

Responsibilities:

Operates technical equipment and coordinates police response in a 24-hour communication center to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. Assists in maintaining and updating departmental records; and serves as the primary point of contact for citizens experiencing a wide range of issues from non-emergency to emergencies and assists them to the needed resources or information both inside and outside the institution.
  • 25% Operates police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and processes requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies
  • 25% Schedules logistics and secures resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution
  • 25% Communicates effectively and provides accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high stress emergency situations
  • 15% Troubleshoots, triages, and escalates issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Documents incidents accurately and adheres to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations

Qualifications:

Previous communication dispatch experience is preferred, but previous experience or equivalent is helpful. All other employment experience will be considered.

A background investigation with be conducted on all finalist(s). This background may include a drug screen, reference checks, and criminal history review prior to beginning employment.

Work Schedule:

TE Police Dispatcher may be scheduled on either first shift, second shift, or third shift which may include working holidays and weekends. Schedules may include working emergencies, special events or other necessary assignments as agreed upon with management.

Work Type:

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.
