Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the part-time Nurse Practitioner/APRN provides urgent care, health assessments, diagnosis and treatment in a busy College Health clinic. This role is a 12 month/up to 25 hours per week position.
The APRN is responsible for the delivery of high-quality healthcare services by providing the following:
- Responsible for providing comprehensive health care to varying age groups in a collegiate settings
- Education of and effective communication with the patient and family served concerning the diagnoses and treatment plan of their medical condition, appropriate preventative measures, and use of the health care system.
- Ability to complete health history
- Continuity of care.
- Provide well and acute care visits in a collaboration with a physician
- Appropriate, accurate and complete medical records entries.
- Adequate and appropriate transfer of information when clients are transferred to another health care provider.
- Provide students with health education, wellness, health promotion and risk reduction education.
- Assess real or potential health hazards and current health status, including analysis or health behavior related to life-style and culture.
- Devise, implement and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgments based on assessment of the physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the clients.
- Assist individuals to assume responsibility for the restoration of health, and prevention of illness.
- Consult, refer and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total patient care including counseling and physician specialists
- Utilize the resources of the College community and the surrounding community area.
- Promote collegial relationships with other clinical staff and providers in the community area.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional growth by involvement in continuing education, peer review, and the review of protocols and procedures, and participate in, design, and/or conduct research.
- Attend Student Health Services committee meetings and local in-service offerings.
- Demonstrate awareness of legislative issues relating to nursing practice and health care.
- Serve as a role model for students.
- Knowledge of community resources needed for patients, staff and families.
- BSN from an accredited school of nursing.
- Master’s degree in nursing or other health related field recognized for certification as a nurse practitioner. FNP preferred.
- License to practice as a registered nurse in the state of CT.
- License to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse in the state of CT.
