Job Description:

The Coordinator of Advisement for Academic Pathways & Degree Completion is responsible for the oversight of the MCLA Division of Continuing Education (DGCE) undergraduate and non-matriculated student academic advising services. The position contributes to the overall success of DGCE by performing all essential duties and responsibilities in support of the management of academic advisement operations, to enhance student success from entry to completion of the academic program

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide a physical presence in the MCLA-Pittsfield location and work on MCLA Main Campus as requested to manage the operations of the DGCE Academic Advisement Center.
  • Assist in all areas of academic advisement, including student recruitment, academic advisement, and ongoing technological innovations within the office.
  • Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs, and with state, federal, and college regulations for advising and reporting.
  • Inform the DGCE Associate Dean, and applicable College staff, of emerging issues involving student and program need, and provide training when necessary.
  • Coordinate special programs with unique articulation pathways, such as with BCC, and with others as they arise.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and College regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide academic advising services to a caseload of undergraduate students enrolling in DGCE courses and programs, including students in DGCE Degree Completion Program cohorts.
  • Provide academic advising services to exploratory and other non-matriculated students enrolling in DGCE courses and programs.
  • Recruit student for DGCE program through class presentations, College and community events, and other initiatives, including some conducted during evenings and on weekends.
  • Provide drop-in advising services and support during high traffic times.
  • Serve as liaison to the MCLA College Advising Center, Office of the Registrar, Admissions, and other appropriate offices.
  • Serve on division and college-wide committees.
  • Provide and promote service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Ability to advise and guide students in course planning, and support and encourage students in implementing their graduation plans.
  • Experience recruiting undergraduate and adult learners to higher education preferred.
  • Familiarity with Banner and DegreeWorks preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication, and experience making presentations and public speaking.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in the region for recruitment and advising.
  • Ability to work effectively with others to meet institutional enrollment and retention goals.
  • Ability to articulate the goals of a liberal arts college, and to speak effectively about the needs and interests of adult learners participating in higher education.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, position in the APA bargaining unit. Salary Range for this position is $47,000-$53,000.
