Position Information

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Special Working Conditions: Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm; other hours as required

Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Dean of the College of Health, Human Services & Nursing, the Associate Dean works closely with the Dean to provide overall leadership and coordination of academic and administrative services within the College. More specifically, the Associate Dean provides support to program Chairs/Directors in the areas of Advising & Student Success, Student Services, Curriculum & Program Development and Administration, Co-Curriculum Development & Campus Relations, Student Conduct & Concerns, and Program Assessment & Accreditation. The Associate Dean also serves on various campus and community committees, assumes the leadership role in the absence of the Dean, and performs other responsibilities as assigned for the effective and efficient operation of the College.

Qualifications

Required Education: Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university; Appropriate credentials to qualify for appointment as a tenured professor in a related program within the College.

Required Experience: Eight (8) years of professionally related experience in higher education. Three (3) years of academic administration experience at the department chair or higher level with successful experience in coordinating, chairing or administering academic program(s); A strong record of good teaching and demonstrated scholarship activity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of higher education issues and trends;
Knowledge and experiences in achieving the Graduation Initiative and student success;
Skills and abilities in using data to improve undergraduate and graduate student success and their support programs;
Skills in analyzing complex problems, data, and information and devising innovative solutions and plans;
Demonstrated strengths in leadership, planning, evaluation, and curriculum design and accreditation process;
Demonstrated performance in making sound, independent judgments;
Positive record of advising, mentoring, and supervising students, faculty, and staff;
Familiarity with the policies and procedures governing student academic life;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, staff, students, and administrators;
Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the campus and surrounding communities;
Skills and experiences in using higher education software and systems that are required for effective and efficient performance (e.g., Data Dashboard, EAB, PeopleSoft, Learning Management System, and so on);
Experience in shared faculty governance and a unionized environment

Preferred Knowledge: Knowledge in the intricacy of student enrollments (FTES), curricular offers, and budgets.

Certification: Valid Drivers License

Responsibilities

35% - Curriculum & Program Development; Assessment & Accreditation

  • Oversees the academic year and intersession (winter, spring, & summer) course schedules and ensures that student needs are met.

  • Oversees all college curriculum processes in accordance with the University and College policies and priorities of the Dean.

  • Oversees programs and processes that promote collaboration and community and regional linkages in support of University and College goals.

  • Assists and supports program leaders in curriculum development, program revisions, accreditation and assessment, and outcomes using analytic approaches and predictive analytics to improve assessment of courses, programs, learning sources and advising.

  • Provides data for evidence-based decision making and resource allocation to improve student retention, closing equity gaps and degree completion.

    30% - College Operations and Representation

  • Leads and coordinates the formulation and implementation of policies in the College.

  • Assists the Dean in the recruitment and evaluation of faculty in the College.

  • Provides communication linkage with departments and programs on personnel, academic issues, and ensures the Dean has all relevant academic affairs information and documentation for the governance of the College.

  • Serves as appropriate administrator for CHHSN staff.

  • Manages all College facilities in accordance with University and College policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure optimal space utilization for instruction and research as well as a physical work environment to meet the needs and goals of faculty, students, and staff in the College.

  • Advises and consults with departments and programs on facilities issues and provides the Dean with relevant information.

  • Serves as the College's liaison on a variety of committees that influence student academic policies or that have, as their intent, the development or enhancement of student support services.

  • Serves as ex-officio member on the College's committees and interacts with various divisional offices and departments such as Academic Affairs, Faculty Affairs, and Facilities Planning, as directed by the Dean.

  • Represents the Dean and the College on various committees and at University/College functions as requested by the Dean.

    25% - Advising & Academic Success, and Student Services

  • Leads the College in efforts for continuous advancement of academic programs supporting student success and equity, including strengthening inter-college and cross-campus collaborations and aligning student-centered advising practices to decrease barriers to student success.

  • Builds relationships and partnerships across campus with programs and units aimed at student success and support.

  • Supervises the college's Student Services Center and collaborates with the University's Advising Center to develop and implement student success initiatives and programs.

  • Reviews and evaluates student petitions, change of grade requests, student related issues and other matters that require the Dean's review and oversight.

  • Oversees students' academic scholarships in the College.

  • Along with the HHSN Student Services Center, coordinates faculty participation in Summer New Student Orientation and Transfer Student Orientation programming

    10% - Other Duties

  • The Associate Dean performs other duties related to the general administration of the College as assigned by the Dean.
