Senior Budget Specialist

Position Summary:
The Sr. Budget Specialist works under the direction of the CNR Grants and Contracts Manager to support financial administration of sponsored projects. This position provides budget reports to principal investigators (PIs), calculates budget projections, resolves budget errors, and interprets policies and procedures to ensure financial transactions are compliant with all applicable policies. This position collaborates with PIs and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) to review and evaluate grant/contract applications and proposals for compliance and accuracy, ensures personnel actions are completed timely and accurately, supports CNR's fiscal operations and participates in other CNR activities as assigned. There will be periodic travel to attend relevant training conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of administrative financial support or bookkeeping experience.
- Experience with best practices for financial processing.
- Experience analyzing fiscal and budgetary information, and developing and monitoring budgets.
- Experience compiling and summarizing financial data into report form.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2 or more years progressive experience in research administration, administration of sponsored projects, and/or writing grant proposals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of grant and contract administration, Federal and University regulations regarding grants, and University research policies.
- Demonstrated experience working with minimal supervision, ability to communicate effectively with others, use problem solving skills, and prioritize workload.
- Experience with the University of Idaho’s electronic research administration system.
- Experience with Banner (Finance, Human Resources, and Student modules).
- Good oral and written communication skills.
