About the Opportunity

Position Summary:

The Associate Director leads a team of professionals who support management, monitoring & reporting, and services for the College of Professional Studies (CPS) Co-operative education program. Reporting to the Director or Experiential Learning and Employer Engagement s/he provides leadership in planning, implementing, executing, evaluating and reporting on business operations for optimal and scalable experiential learning engagements for all CPS learners. S/he consults with faculty, academic partners, employers, and other constituents to grow and nurture relationships between Northeastern University and its employer partners. S/he provides strategic leadership and guidance for staff on approaches and activities for recruiting learner participants and employer partners, provisioning marketing and social media, and establishing and maintaining technology platforms to deliver authentic experiential learning opportunities, supported by formative and summative evaluation, monitoring, and reporting on outcomes and program characteristics. S/he works with leadership to identify growth goals and implement strategies while ensuring highly satisfactory levels of support and services for faculty, learners, and employer partners. S/he identifies opportunities for adopting new strategies and reimagining existing strategies to better engage and continuously improve CPS experiential learning to better align with academic programmatic outcomes for all CPS learners. S/he also assesses and evaluates emerging trends, technologies, and requirements in this domain to empower Northeastern University's leadership position in experiential learning. Finally, s/he leverages internal and external resources to scale and sustain the program, continuously publicize its initiatives, recruit students and employer partners, safeguard and serve the unique experiential needs of the CPS learner populations, and further establish CPS Co-op as a widely recognized differentiator for the university.

30% Leadership, Strategy, and Program Growth

Provides training, motivation and new approaches for staff and colleagues across all NU campuses serving CPS academic programs. Provide leadership and individual contributions for nurturing experiential learning opportunities to meet learners' expectations and ensure employers' satisfaction. Maintain portfolio of deliverables, working with stakeholders to promote, grow, and sustain CPS experiential initiatives. Proactively works to advance impactful and engaging experiential learning initiatives by collaborating with staff, faculty and academic programs.

Working with the Director, provide vision and direction for the unit, including maintaining and securing relationships with academic partners, businesses, and organizational partners. Takes initiative and builds strong collaborative relationships across the network to ensure high quality student experience with a focus on equity, growth and excellence.

Service: represents the team as a leader in experiential education at open houses and orientations. Represents CPS through various engagements (committees, tasks forces, and groups) within the Cooperative Education Division and the University. Also, externally represent the University at regional & national professional associations and conferences.

30% Advise, Support, Adopt, and Assess

Maintain advising caseload of learners & programs for experiential learning. Provide comprehensive career coaching by providing one-to-one and one-to-many student support modalities to scale support and instill a knowledgeable and professional foundation for learners embarking on experiential learning assignments. Regularly schedule webinars, workshops, and other events for students and employer partners. Work closely with Academic Advising, First Year Navigator, Office of Global Students (OGS), and Career Services (EECD) to ensure a smooth transition from classroom to work throughout the student journey. Assess student levels of eligibility and professionalism, and respond accordingly. Adopt innovative practices and platforms for the delivery of experiential learning to meet the diverse needs of CPS learners, academic programs, and employer partners. Quickly adapt and implement changes to operational technology and support this adoption cross-functionally, by demonstrating commitment to evolution across multiple teams.

25% Management, Oversight & Resource Allocation

Provide daily management of staff and support services for co-op/internship opportunities supporting institutional & organizational goals and objectives. Lead the selection and onboarding process for staff and manage all aspects of performance management. Plan, organize resources, assign and delegate activities and measure results to achieve organization's expectations. Provide feedback, recognition and coaching to ensure high performance, growth and professional development. Manage expectations and address unsatisfactory performance as needed. Assist employees in navigating business processes and resolving issues. Administer and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Provide expertise, guidance and oversight for the review and processing of (F1) international student documents for co-op and advising according to federal regulations and established guidelines for the college and Northeastern University; own and lead process for applications for Curricular Practical Training (CPT), work with OGS and CPS Academic Advising teams to ensure international learners are informed and abide by all federal regulations and university guidelines for participation in experiential learning. Own and provide oversight for maintenance and support of relevant databases, communication materials, social media, and co-op events, and student support across multiple modalities. Facilitate and organize student workshops and attend on campus/virtual events to represent CPS co-operative education.

15% Strategy, Analysis, Monitoring and Reporting

Provide strategic direction, data collection, in-depth analysis, and operational oversight for reporting on co-op/internship initiatives and activities. Work with data management teams and colleagues using established reporting platforms to monitor and track success measurements for and report business impact and metrics to measure key performance indicators. Monitor and report program outcomes and deliverables. Establish approach for leveraging existing institutional resources and programs to help achieve planned outcomes for co-op/internship opportunities for domestic and international learners across the institution. Identify and execute new approaches as needed. Promote and support innovative approaches to measure and evaluate experiential learning, assist in the development and implementation of appropriate assessment tools, and work with the Director and other leadership to project and plan resources and budgets.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Master's Degree (terminal degree a plus) in higher education leadership, management, administration or related field preferred. Minimum of 4-6 years of experience with increasing leadership responsibilities in career services, education administration, experiential learning, and/or employer relations in higher education or similar, required. Strong knowledge of requirements and best practices for supporting domestic and international, first-gen undergraduate, graduate, and adult learners in co-op/internship domain required. Must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, strong change management skills, and ability to understand evolving higher education systems and processes. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, entrepreneurial skills, conflict resolution skills, and ability to coordinate and manage diverse groups, required. Knowledge of experiential technology platforms, educational technology platforms, online learning, instructional design and academic assessment, project management skills, and required. Knowledge and understanding of trends in higher education, such as focused on experiential learning, co-operative education, and dealing with diverse student populations, required. Demonstrated values of excellence, respect, integrity, stewardship, community and personal development. Teaching and staff development/training experience a plus.
