The Department of Computer Science and Computer Information Systems at Auburn University at Montgomery is accepting applications for the Graduate Student Success Coordinator position.

The Graduate Student Success Coordinator is responsible for helping to promote a positive and successful learning experience for students in an effort to increase graduate student retention, success and timely degree completion within the Computer Science (CS) Department. Directly supervised by the department chair, the success coordinator will assist the graduate advisor in ensuring that all students in Computer Science & Computer Information Systems Cybersecurity courses receive continuous communication and follow-up on issues to maximize success. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:
  • Assist international graduate student applicants and incoming students. May involve non-standard working hours during application and registration periods.
  • Directly supervised by the department chair and work closely with Faculty Advisors and Graduate Advisor for each graduate degree program.
  • Assist advising upcoming, current, graduating graduate students regarding their graduate studies with course recommendations for future semesters in Department of Computer Science at AUM .
  • Maintain graduate student study plan, course registration advising, course registration, PIN number management and distribution.
  • Coordinate, audit and process graduation applications; evaluate and approve the general cases; coordinate with Graduate Advisor on special cases.
  • Students’ end-of-program feedback & success stories collection; future career internship, part-time, full-time job offerings management & documentation, etc.;
  • Coordinate and manage student internship course application, approval, registration; communicate with internship filed supervisor; assist Graduate Advisor and Faculty Advisor assessing students’ internship performance and grading; update & document internship success story in Student Study Plan.
  • Assist Graduate Advisor overseeing registration and participate in call campaigns to ensure students are registered.
  • Aid students and faculty to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, class attendance, homework completion, and class performance issues.
  • Assists faculty with required Banner or Argos reports and provides feedback on student success outcomes.
  • Check and ensure CS course pre-requisites (including minimum GPA ) have been met and drop students from classes if they don’t meet pre-requisites.
  • Manage course attendance checking and support in daily basis.
  • For graduate students who are admitted with prerequisite course requirement, after they have successfully passed the prerequisite courses, assisting Graduate Advisor to manually update the needed information in Banner System.
  • Work with Faculty Advisor and Graduate Advisor to assist open house, outreach, graduate night, etc, events.
  • Coordinate with Faculty Advisor and Graduate Advisor to provide overrides when necessary to ensure students are able to register for courses.
  • Work with faculty members, Department Chair, College of Science and University on dealing with Academic Dishonesty charges and coordinating with students regarding the issues.
  • Process incoming graduate student documentation and assists with registration for classes, including assigning transferred/equivalent courses to those who are qualified.
  • Answer inquiries from future students
  • Assist with the preparation of international orientation.
  • Assist to provide academic advice for graduate students as it pertains to degree completion and general catalog concerns.
  • Collect, interview, document and record student success stories for CS department, College of Science and university marketing for addition to the AUM website.
  • Tasks assigned by Department Chair and Graduate Advisor that are relevant to the position.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of assigned program or function
  • Knowledge of acceptable coordinating/advising and/or recruiting techniques and practices
  • Excellent written and Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to advise students
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and measure progress
