MarineQuest’s Summer Camp Night Director is responsible for the supervision of all evening and weekend staff including RAs, instructors, and counselors. He/she will oversee all programmatic activities related to camper dorm life including meals, sleeping arrangements, and behavior management. Additionally, he/she will oversee the implementation of MarineQuest evening/weekend activities and agendas.

This position will work to maintain a sense of team and collaborative relationships amongst the MarineQuest day/evening/weekend staff to maximize the quality of MarineQuest programs for its residential participants.

Primary Duties Include:
  • Supervise night activity counselors, weekend activity counselors and RAs
  • Facilitate evening programs and activities, many of which take place in and around water and require exceptional oversight and safety considerations
  • Live on-site in dorms with students
  • Coordinate transportation to evening activity sites
  • Coordinate and Supervise Sunday residential check-in
  • Manage and maintain an inventory of all dorms keys and oversee weekly key exchange with UNCW housing
  • Administrative responsibilities (including but not limited to: completing incident reports, some management of camper paperwork, emails, copying, etc.)
  • Responsible for the enforcement of the MarineQuest residential staff instructor manual
  • Reports to MarineQuest Director


Given the on-going COVID -19 pandemic, we cannot ensure we will be given permission to operate as a full in-person and residential program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Housing & residence life experience
  • Minimum requirement of bachelor’s degree
  • Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Must demonstrate initiative, positivity, and leadership qualities
  • Must have desire and experience working with youth
  • Must demonstrate qualities of maturity, patience, and responsibility
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Marine Sciences, education, or related field
  • Current lifeguard certification
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of marine sciences is a plus
  • Genuine interest in the academic, social, and emotional growth of adolescents
Required Certifications or Licensure
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 21 years old

Typically 6:30AM - 8:30AM and 3:00PM -10:00PM Monday - Thursday; Friday 6:30AM - 10:00AM; 12:00PM - 10:00PM Sunday; Occasional overtime possible as needed to address unforeseen after-hours concerns or administrative needs.

Please note, this is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
