Position Summary

To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student-athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • High diploma or GED 
  • Demonstrated Ice Hockey coaching and/or playing experience 
  • Valid United States Driver’s License 
  • Meet and sustain a satisfactory driving record that meets and the underwriting requirements of the College insurance company 
  • Familiarity with the Internet, Word and Excel.  
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant success playing and/or coaching Ice Hockey   
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 
  • Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills; 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills 
  • Good interpersonal skills 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team 
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and providing quality customer service  
Major Responsibilities
  • Actively recruit qualified student athletes that meet academic standards and profile of the college; Identify potential student athletes through off campus recruitment and coordination of on campus visits  
  • Create and sustain an atmosphere that promotes academic, athletic and personal growth resulting in overall success of student athletes  
  • Identify, recruit and supervise assistant coaches  
  • Assist the Director of Operations, Ice Hockey, in preparation and adherence of yearly operating budgets  
  • Organize fundraising activities that support team operating expenses  
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to support the mission of the college  
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks  
  • Function as a collegial team member by working with all members of the Fort Lewis College community, including a willingness to participate in campus events and committees  
  • Adhere to all FLC Club Sports policies and conference rules and regulations  
  • Willingness to travel, work evenings and weekends as needed  
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities  
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.  
  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

Salary is $5,000
