The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities ( CASSH ) includes departments and programs in the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies, as well departments in the School of Visual and Performing Arts ( VPA ). CASSH / VPA continues the established liberal studies tradition of providing curricula leading to the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree.

CASSH / VPA is dedicated to providing quality innovative instruction and creative learning experiences which prepares students for future careers and education. More broadly, such learning allows students to continue to develop meaningful, responsible lives. Graduates of the college will have developed the ability to communicate effectively, to think critically, to conduct sound research, to understand complex issues, to use knowledge in all aspects of life, to participate meaningfully as global citizens, and to discover and apply carefully considered values.

Position Summary

Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. In addition, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

Under general supervision of department chair, teaches college courses in the Music Department, evaluates students’ work, maintains appropriate records, and holds office hours.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree [except in rare circumstances where post-baccalaureate certification or licensure or a baccalaureate plus experience can be established as appropriate qualifications for the teaching position].

All persons hired for Academic Instruction will be required to submit all of their official copies of their transcripts to Human Resources upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Music teaching experience at the college level.
