Job Summary:


The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program ( EFNEP ) teaches limited resource families how to shop, cook, and eat within their budget. EFNEP teaches about nutrition, physical activity, food safety, and resource management. This position will focus on teaching low-income parents or caregivers of youth, and/or youth.

The EFNEP program assistant will recruit groups for EFNEP classes by doing outreach and collaborating with community agencies. In addition they will participate in staff development and training in nutrition and best practices for teaching. This is a grant funded position.

This position will be assigned to work throughout the Southeast Region; the day-to-day workstation will be as a teleworker.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


• Teach food and nutrition related subject matter (physical activity, food safety, food resource management, and food security) to limited resource adults who are the primary care giver (parents, foster parents, grandparents caring for grandchildren) of children and/or limited resource youth.
• Teach participants in groups in community settings, including but limited to, faith-based organizations, libraries, community centers, after school programs, homeless shelters, schools, recovery centers.
• Provide information to participants about other USDA nutrition assistance programs, WIC, school lunch, SNAP, etc.
• Maintain accurate and complete records and reports for all activities as required.

• Use a standardized curriculum and evaluation instruments to teach and assess program participants’ knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors pre to post series to determine program impact.
• Organizes and conducts educational activities; including recruiting participants, reserving/setting up for the classes, cleaning up, securing supplies and maintaining all paperwork.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Experience and Qualifications:


• Education requirement: high school diploma or equivalent

• Willingness and ability to work in economically and socially disadvantaged areas. Ability to create a rapport with adults/youth from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
• Able to work with children in schools and after school programs.

• Knowledge of basic household management skills, including food preparation and nutritional needs.

• Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language and ability to follow written and oral instructions, do simple math, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
• Able to work as part of a team and on your own.

• Basic knowledge and comfort with using computers.

• Able to lift and carry education materials to program sites (up to 35 lbs.).

• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with required liability insurance, to be utilized for frequent travel.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends and evenings.
