The University Marketing department at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Director of Web & Digital Strategy (full-time, 12 month) position. With the fast-emerging digital environment, the Director of Web & Digital Strategy leads a team that works in an entrepreneurial and strategic way to push forward ideas, innovation, execution and culture, driving the Old Dominion University brand to new heights using digital experience and engagement as essential elements. The director is responsible for identifying, developing and executing the most effective strategies to reach and connect with the University’s key target audiences through web and digital media. The director serves as the university’s chief web and social media strategist as part of the University Communications leadership team, integrating web, social and digital media strategy with the University’s global marketing and communication initiatives. This position supervises a team of classified digital communications professionals including a social media manager, web communication specialists and a part-time digital media specialist and reports to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and serves as the primary liaison with the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), providing creative and prioritization direction to its web and development teams.

Required Qualifications:   Considerable knowledge in web technologies, including content management systems and web practices, with knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Considerable knowledge and understanding of communications, marketing and branding principles, particularly as they apply to higher education. Good project management skills with ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline‐driven environment. Strong customer service skills. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Strong skill in editing and proofreading. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent organization skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage projects independently. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply data privacy practices and laws. Master’s degree required or Bachelor’s degree with training and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in communication, marketing, digital media or related field. Comprehensive experience developing and implementing a web and digital media strategy that combines research and best practices with innovation and the newest technologies and practices. Comprehensive experience with computer graphics and multimedia design. Considerable experience using the Adobe Creative Suite web and graphic development tools. Considerable experience leading a team that works in an entrepreneurial and strategic way to push forward ideas, innovation, execution, and culture. Considerable experience at a professional level working on Web design and publishing and digital strategy. Considerable experience at a professional level developing and implementing the strategy for and managing the primary social media accounts of an organization. Considerable experience leading and guiding project teams at all levels of university constituencies. Comprehensive experience with all aspects of website content management, including an ability to identify target audience preferences and build content to meet them. Considerable leadership and supervisory experience of others. Considerable experience with SEO and Google Analytics web traffic metrics. Considerable experience with web content management systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and preferably Drupal. Working experience as a social media strategist or social media manager, including hands on experience creating written and graphic content for campaigns and using social media to increase brand awareness, engage prospective and current students, and achieve marketing goals using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube.

Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of AP style preferred. Higher education experience preferred.
