Oversees the student video production team in the Student Media Center. Actively participates in regular budget and editors' meetings to plan student-centered editorial content. Assigns stories and videos to respective student staff, sets deadlines and monitors progress. Edits content in preparation for broadcast. Uploads content to Student Media Center website at Editor-in-Chief's request. Serves as spokesperson for Student Media Center in Editor-in-Chief's absence.



Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Plans, assigns and monitors staff's progress on assignments, maintains deadlines and edits broadcast-based content.
  • Creates content as needed.
  • Helps in planning and coverage of campus news in collaboration with Editor-in-Chief and other staff.
  • Turns stories into scripts for web publication, in collaboration with other editors and staff.


Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.



Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent required
Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours at JCCC each semester and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA
Must demonstrate ability to edit video quickly with attention to detail and must demonstrate writing/editing skills necessary for transitioning video scripts into print stories and vice versa
Applicant may be given a writing/editing test during interview
Microsoft Word skills


Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with Adobe Premier and Adobe After Effects
Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in JOUR 227 Basic Video Production, FMS 200 Introduction to Filmmaking and Media, JOUR 127 Introduction to Broadcasting, JOUR 120 Mass Media and Society, JOUR 122 News Writing and Reporting, JOUR 145 Photojournalism, and/or JOUR 247 Advanced Video Production (transcript required if not taken at JCCC)
Previous experience working with a student publication
Knowledge of broadcast writing style
Previous supervisory experience
