Location: Ogden, Utah

Description: The Department of Performing Arts at Weber State University invites applications for a full-time Instructor of Music starting in July 2022. We seek a candidate with evidence of teaching success in percussion, world music and jazz, who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a diverse student body in the context of an open-enrollment public university.

The DPA is committed to centering diverse identities and experiences among its faculty, curriculum and students. We seek candidates with experience serving the learning needs of students from diverse and under-served backgrounds. Commitments to inclusion and equity efforts in pedagogical practices and to student mentoring are desirable.
Rank: Instructor (Instructor positions are temporary one-year appointments renewable by separate contract at the sole discretion of the University).

Job Duties:
  • Teach General Education courses as needed in the Music Program including Music of World Cultures and Intro to Jazz;
  • Direct the Percussion Ensemble;
  • Teach Percussion lessons;
  • Assist the Director of Bands with the Marching Band and Pep Band as needed.


Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree with an emphasis in Music
  • Experience teaching percussion ensemble at the college level
  • Experience teaching percussion students at the college level
  • Experience teaching general education courses in music at the college level
  • Experience working with Marching Band drumline at the college level


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise and/or background in Music of World Cultures and/or Jazz
  • Accomplished artist-level performer on Percussion
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting Percussion Students
  • Experience assisting with Marching Band and/or Pep Band
  • Evidence of successful collaborative projects with other music areas or other disciplines
