Assistant Director of Assessment and Coordinator of Survey Research

Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Assessment and Coordinator of Survey Research supports institutional assessment/effectiveness activities across academic and administrative support units. The primary responsibilities of this position include stewardship of the university's overall survey research program, support of the Director in fulfilling campus obligations with regards to required external reporting, and support of the campus assessment plan-- including primary support for collection, feedback, and reporting on the annual Student Learning Objectives reports.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the university's Qualtrics Survey Research Platform as Brand Administrator, assist with system maintenance, and provide training and technical support.
  • Design, administer, and analyze student, faculty/staff, and alumni surveys to support campus and academic unit assessments of the faculty, staff, and student experience
  • Coordinate the University's response to various outside surveys including but not limited to NSSE, SUNY SOS, NYS Sexual Violence Prevention, et al., prepare reports and distribute findings to individual units
  • Provide timely survey research support to academic and administrative units as they pursue their assessment agendas
  • Play a lead role in enforcing UAlbany's comprehensive campus-wide survey policy to ensure that all surveys of students, faculty/staff, and alumni conducted under the auspices of the University at Albany are coordinated in their administration and adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards
  • Manage the campus calendar of surveys
  • Have the ability to work with a culturally diverse population

 

Additionally, the Assistant Director is also expected to contribute to fulfilling the campus's obligations with regard to required external reporting, particularly with respect to accreditation and assessment issues.

  • Take a lead role in the development and distribution of feedback provided to departments in response to the annual Student Learning Objective (SLO) reports submitted by each academic department in support of our institutional assessment plan.
  • Evaluate and document results/research of external and internal studies related to areas of institutional interest and conduct presentations of findings to faculty and administrative leadership
  • Assist the Director in shepherding the program review process, including survey research and analysis pertinent to the review process
  • Become familiar with the office's major data and information systems and participate in the design and execution of analytic studies, as needed, to support planning and decision-making across the campus.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop custom reports and interactive data visualizations using large data sets from different sources and transform data into actionable insights
  • Work with departments to interpret and apply results.
  • Mine and analyze big data and apply advanced statistical techniques/models to address sophisticated research topics regarding enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and other research issues.


Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in business, higher education, or relevant quantitative discipline OR a master's degree in any field plus a minimum of 3 years of professional assessment experience with demonstrated growth and progressive responsibilities.
  • High level of proficiency in designing surveys in the Qualtrics platform.
  • Experience in institutional research, survey research, assessment, or data analytics (earned doctorate may substitute);
  • Demonstrated experience using SPSS, 'R', Stata, or other relevant statistical analysis software; 5-Excellent analytical and writing skills. 

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate or ABD with continuing active progress toward completion
  • Qualtrics certification
  • Experience using Tableau for data visualization
  • Outstanding communication skills


Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Range: Assistant for Institutional Research, SL-3; Anticipated salary $65,000
