The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle is seeking applicants for the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness at the Daytona Beach campus. This position is charged with leading fitness and wellness related programming and events, student employee fitness and professional education, and general supervision. The Fitness Department is in a growth phase with a new facility opening in late Spring, making a creative and innovative mindset with a drive to implement highly sought after qualities.

Primary responsibilities include:

Programming
  • Oversee and manage the creation and implementation of fitness and wellness programs and events including but not limited to:
    • Personal training program development and management
    • Group Fitness includes managing 3-studios, starting with 20, and growing to 60-80 classes per week, as well as recruiting, training, and evaluating instructors for each class.
    • Training programs include curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation for 4-8 multi-week (up to 12 weeks) training programs for varying areas of fitness and wellness.
    • Instructor training programs includes curriculum design, instruction, and evaluation for 8-10 week trainings designed to prepare participants to take and pass certification exams required to become group fitness instructors or personal trainers.
    • Campus and community-wide events include internal strength competitions, fitness and wellness expos, as well as large-scale community events such as the Homecoming and Blue and Gold week’s 5k races.
Student employee management and development
  • Provide leadership for student staff
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and welcome desk staff
  • Develop and implement core learning objectives for all fitness staff to be addressed in regular staff trainings
Administrative and Supporting roles
  • Support all functions of the Fitness and Wellness Department, including aquatic, outdoor and climbing activities. For example, this may include sharing best practices in employee management and development, or designing collaborative events and programs in which multiple Fitness and Wellness arenas are utilized, and other special projects.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
  • Genuine interest in student development and well-being, community, and fostering skills and appreciation for lifelong physical activity.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in fitness and management
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience in campus recreation
