Brief Description of Duties

The School of Business and Public Administration at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is seeking a Visiting Professor of Accounting/Economics/Finance for the 2022/2023 academic year, beginning August 2022. A Visiting Faculty member may be offered an appointment of one or more additional years after successfully teaching one academic year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • The individual hired for this position will be responsible for teaching required and elective courses. Responsibilities also include engaging in service activities with colleagues, the department, School, campus, community, and professional organizations.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Accounting/Economics/Finance or Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with concentration in Accounting, Economics, or Finance from an AACSB-International accredited institution or a major national university or be ABD in Accounting, Economics or Finance. If the applicant has a Master’s degree and is not ABD or Ph.D. in the discipline, the applicant must have relevant and credible work experience in Finance that demonstrates active involvement in profession since the time of the Master’s degree completion.
  • Must meet conditions for one of the four 2013 AACSB faculty qualifications [Scholarly Academic (SA), Practice Academic (PA), Scholarly Practitioner (SP), or Instructional Practitioner (IP)].

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or DBA in Accounting/Economics/Finance from an AACSB-International accredited institution.
  • Related practitioner experience in Accounting/Economics/Finance consistent with the courses to be taught.
  • Successful collegiate teaching in Accounting/Economics/Finance. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively to a diverse group of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching methods in a classroom with a diverse group of students.
  • CPA, CMA, CFA, CFP, or other relevant accounting/economics/finance/statistics certification.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:

  1. An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
  2. At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.


Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.

When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a 'satisfactory background investigation' is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
