The Department of Human Development and Family Science seeks candidates for a Research Associate position to assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and Project Manager (PM) of the ADCANP / CTF Evaluation Project in planning, maintaining, and completing the evaluation of community-based programs funded by The Alabama Dept. of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention.

The project documents the outreach and program effectiveness of multiple programs in Alabama (e.g., fatherhood, parenting, respite care, and youth programs) funded by ADCANP . The mission of ADCANP is to provide funding to community-based programs to prevent child abuse and neglect and reduce the risk of child maltreatment in Alabama. The position involves the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts which require Master’s level scientific/research knowledge, skills, and abilities, following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws, and coordination with program staff at funded community-based agencies. The Research Associate assists in the development of project proposals, evaluation plans, protocols, training, and reporting for this academic and research related project.

Essential Functions
  • Assesses, updates and maintains the protocols, equipment, materials, and software needed to complete the project deliverables.
  • Processes, collects, enters, develops, and manages data and their corresponding databases to ensure accurate and accessible records on program outreach and outcomes.
  • Manages, compiles, cleans, and analyzes data to prepare reports.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to students working in data entry and data management.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to ADCANP staff and grantee agencies and individual data collection staff. May conduct occasional site visits in person or virtually to train partner agency staff on evaluation and data collection methods and processes.
  • Documents activities and observations of the data collection process in writing on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Coordinates with the PI and PM to prepare research results for presentation to funder and other stakeholders; assists with preparation of results for presentation to the funding agency Board, the partner agencies, and at conferences to include written results, reports, and facilitated discussions.
  • Completes other relevant duties/tasks as assigned.

Area of Experience

Database management : experience in the creation, management, and oversight of databases that contain sensitive information used in data analyses and preparing reports. Experience in research practices and protocols, data processing, and running data analysis. Demonstrated experience in basic statistical methodology and interpretation in an applied research setting. Able to analyze data and use the findings to guide decision-making. Experience with SPSS and Excel for managing datasets and running analyses.

Level II – Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social, behavioral, or biological sciences and 2 years experience.

Applicant must be able to assess situations quickly and effectively and have strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate and collaborate with evaluation team and grantee personnel.

Minimum Technology Skills

Knowledge of and ability to effectively use software used in statistical data analyses. Applicant must be knowledgeable of statistical principles and practices. Knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and SPPS as a minimum.
