Position Function

Serve as primary academic advisor to approximately 300 students in a variety of disciplines; apply proactive advising strategies; support students in meeting academic requirements; promote strategies for student success; serve as referral to other university services; facilitate communication between students and all departments.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Minimum Experience

Three years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or related field in higher education.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience

More than three years working in a higher education environment; familiarity with Ball State curriculum; familiarity with Banner, EAB Navigate, and Degree Works.

Preferred Other

Ability to work with faculty, administration, and undergraduate students; ability to work in a collaborative environment and work independently; sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population; interpersonal/human relations skills; ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions; ability to act as an advocate for both the students and the university; ability to identify students’s needs for support services in order to make appropriate referrals; ability to maintain confidentiality.

Job Duty

Meet with assigned load of approximately 300 students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues such as course planning and registration, major-specific requirements, and academic progress.

Keep up-to-date information on university academic requirements, policies, and procedures as outlined in the undergraduate catalog and in departmental handbooks.
