POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accounting Analyst performs and/or oversees strategic, broad-impact financial analysis, reporting, and systems development for the university. Leads and coordinates the design, implementation, and analysis of financial/accounting/restricted funds reports.

The Senior Accounting Analyst will be required to monitor, understand, and implement changes in regulatory compliance, accounting, and auditing standards.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Oversees the design, documentation, and implementation of various integrated systems and applications for periodic and ad hoc financial reporting, utilizing complex electronic financial information systems and databases.
  • Coordinates, compiles, and analyzes financial statements for the university, utilizing complex spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Collaborates with and coordinates all components of the organization to ensure consistent reporting and adherence to federal and state financial reporting regulations and guidelines, and conformity with university fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Manages all accounting and compliance processes associated with restricted funds and University investments including endowments, grants, gift annuities, trusts, & expendable funds.
  • Coordinates the preparation of the University's 990 and Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) tax returns.
  • Coordinates the processes associated with gifts of securities and estates.
  • Interacts with university auditors and assists with interim and year-end audits, as appropriate.
  • May develop and deliver financial and business training programs, as appropriate.
  • Assists in various ad-hoc projects assigned by Finance & Administration leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (four-year college or university) required.

Experience: Three to five years' significant experience in accounting or finance operations of a mid-size organization required (higher education or non-profit preferred). Experience at a Big 4 or regional public accounting experience also preferred.

Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills
  • Must be technically proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Advanced level skills in Excel strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite a plus, not required.
Certificates & Licenses

CPA strongly preferred; active pursuit of CPA considered.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, interpret, and present complex annual financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
