Job Summary:
Administrate the athletic training services to all student athletes in a co-educational athletic program/facility and to keep the Director of Athletics and Coaches informed concerning news in athletics, which directly pertains to Central State University
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Development and distribution of a consistent message related to athletic department activities to a diverse audience.
§ To compile and maintain all statistical records and references files on the athletic teams and individuals.
§ Collect from coaches other than football and basketball statistics following home matches for recording and distribution to the media. (Assist with home events)
§ To assist the athletic coaches in compiling statistics on their respective athletic teams/individuals.
§ To arrange media interviews and press conferences for the Director of Athletics, coaches and players.
§ To direct the press box area for football and press row operation for men’s and women’s basketball.
§ To select, train and utilize talented student assistants/support staff assistants to work in sports information.
§ To arrange and direct photo sessions for all athletic team members coach and staff
§ To submit to the Director of Athletics year-end statistical reports on all teams.
§ To order all equipment and supplies for the SID office.
§ Prepare media guides for teams, submit to printer and distribute as necessary.
§ Coordinate with electronic media coverage for athletic events.
§ Promote teams and individual athletes and coaches for post season honors.
§ Keep National raters for individual teams informed of said teams record.
§ Ability to use computer for desktop publishing, statistical analysis and word processing
§ Ability to use 35 mm camera for photos of athletic events.
§ Ability to develop working relationship with area media.
§ To maintain files on all athletes statistics, photos etc. concerning their athletic career at CSU .
§ Maintain rosters of all teams.
§ Maintain individual file on each athlete concerning health history, physical exams, injuries, rehabilitation and treatments.
§ Order all supplies and equipment for the Training Room.
§ Evaluate injuries, administer treatment, refer to physician as necessary and prescribe rehabilitation protocol for all injured athletes.
§ Provide medical coverage for all home football and basketball games (or covered by another certified athletic trainer.
§ Travel with football team for road games.
§ Travel with men’s and women’s basketball games as able.
§ Provide medical coverage for other home athletic events as able, based on football/basketball schedules.
§ Arrange pre-participation physicals for all athletes.
§ Inform coaches of status of injured athletes.
§ Serve as liaison with student health center.
§ Maintain records of athletes insurance coverage and supply information to medical providers
§ Recruit, train and supervise student athletic trainers.
§ Work with area athletic training programs to develop clinical experience sites for students from area programs.
§ Supervise assistant sports information workers and assistant athletic trainers that may be employed by the department
§ Attend professional conferences to maintain certification/licensure and to learn current trends of profession.
§ Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Minimum Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
§ Knowledge and understanding of athletic issues as they relate to the administration of University athletic programs.
§ A strong commitment to both men’s and women’s athletic programs
§ Have a demonstrated track record in personnel management, budgeting and planning.
§ The ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
§ The ability to communicate effectively through oral and written expression.
§ A strong commitment to academic excellence.
§ Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
§ A Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a related field (Athletic Administration, Health, Physical Education or Recreation).
§ Significant experience (a minimum of five years) in an athletic-related administrative position.
