Associate Provost - Academic Programs & Assessment

Summary:
Utah Valley University invites applicants for the position of Associate Provost of Academic Programs and Assessment. UVU is an open-access, comprehensive, teaching-focused, public university of approximately 40,000 students in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The APAPA must enthusiastically support the mission and core themes of the university and the opportunity to work with others to create the nation's best platform for student success.
The Associate Provost is responsible for the operational management, strategic vision, and administrative direction of the Office of Academic Affairs for Programs and Assessment. Reports to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost and oversees multiple units within the Office of Academic Programming and Assessment. Works closely with appropriate colleagues in Academic and Student Affairs on issues of assessment, curriculum, scheduling, retention, completion, and student success. Responsible for supporting the mission and vision of the University, particularly Academic Affairs' mission and role in curricular delivery and assessment. Represents the University on administrative matters for the division, to include external entities, both public and private. May be asked to represent the Provost as needed. Required Qualifications:
Candidates will have graduated from an accredited institution with a terminal degree, with three years or more teaching experience at the college/university level. Direct experience with for-credit programs or curriculum development, accreditation, and academic assessment in a comprehensive university, online teaching, or scheduling.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understand, generally, the scope and mission of comprehensive universities
- Understand the current trends facing large public universities, including program/curricular developments and delivery
- Knowledge of research-based best practices in teaching and course development
- Understand campus and/or system policies and procedures regarding academic program planning and assessment, delivery methods, and student outcomes
- Knowledge of best practices that support first-generation students, non-traditional students, and students of diverse backgrounds in student success.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Build teams within Academic Affairs, with Student Affairs, and other VP units where necessary
- Inclusive and transparent decision-making with colleagues, reports, and supervisors
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, efficiently, and accountably in a team-oriented environment with various institutional units to plan, implement, and evaluate unit-relevant practices and procedures.
- Ability to motivate teams to be creative and solve difficult problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishes strategies, sets priorities, and oversees multiple units within the Office of Academic Programming and Assessment: Office of Teaching and Learning, Academic Quality Assurance, Graduate Studies, Scheduling Office, Curriculum Office, Curricular Diversity Equity, and Inclusion Fellow. Oversees course fees. Promotes innovative scheduling and curricular delivery. Explores curricular delivery to new audiences and explores opportunities as presented to the University.
- Coordinates and conducts academic program assessments and reports results to campus. Responsible for assessment of university essential learning outcomes and supports program learning outcome assessment in the colleges/schools and reports results to campus. Acts as a campus resource for course learning outcome design and assessment. Promotes innovative approaches regarding student assessment of learning outcomes.
- Coordinates and supports program accreditation across the colleges/school and works closely with the University Accreditation Officer. Ensures accreditation needs are met and exceeded in terms of accreditation requirements both at the program and institutional level.
- Represents the University on administrative matters for the division to include external entities, both public and private. Includes researching and writing reports for strategic initiatives and collaborations, and other necessary documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of full-time successful experience in an academic leadership role, such as a director, department chair, or higher.
- Accreditation experience
