Assistant or Associate Professor (03-317-183): The Department of Radiation Oncology, at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for a faculty physician at the Assistant or Associate, non-tenure track level to be part of an integrated community-based practice.

The Department of Radiation Oncology of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, ranked top 5 in NIH research funding, is recruiting for a Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant/Associate level. The department provides Radiation Oncology services at the UM-Upper Chesapeake Medical Center’s Cancer Center, located in Bel Air, Maryland. This site is one of the department’s well-integrated 6 locations, inclusive of its downtown academic medical and proton therapy centers. The ideal candidate will a strong interest in having a career in academic radiation oncology in a community setting with an active clinical practice, along with a clinical trial’s program and NP support at the center.

The Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical program has 20 physicians inclusive of fellow and physician scientist faculty. The main patient care facility at the University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore, within the University of Maryland Greenebaum NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is close to the main attractions of the Inner Harbor waterfront and professional sports stadiums. Our current clinical program has 11 linear accelerators, a research linear accelerator, 5 multi-slice large bore CT simulators, a proton center, a GammaPod, 3 HDR units, an MRI and active programs in Hyperthermia Therapy, Brachytherapy, SRS/SBRT and Radio-embolization. There are several campus-wide shared resources including small-animal imaging CT, PET and MR scanners.

Medical Physics, led by Dr. Amit Sawant, has 30 medical physics faculty, 26 dosimetrists, 3 residents, and 8 information systems and technology staff. All practice sites are connected via a state-of-the-art telemedicine network facilitating interactions between faculty and staff. Research programs include the development of new treatment planning and delivery techniques, tumor motion management, inter-fraction image guidance strategies and collaborative research. The medical physics research team has research space co-located with our Division of Translational Radiation Sciences (DTRS).

Qualifications :

Candidates must be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology and eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Maryland. This position requires a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent), a strong commitment to patient care and teaching, and the ability to work well in a team setting.
