Public Administration and International Affairs seeking a part-time Instructor to be a section instructor for PAI 996 – Master’s Project Course (online course – 3 credits).

Course Description: Students will apply concepts and skills from the Executive MPA curriculum to a real-world policy or organizational issue. They will design a data driven research project to study the issue and effectively communicate the results of the project to both academic and professional colleagues upon its completion. This is the capstone course required for the Executive Master of Public Administration ( EMPA ) degree (mid-career students only).

Executive MPA online program section instructors will conduct a 90 minute synchronous or live section with approximately 15 students at the same time each week for 10 weeks. Course is typically offered every quarter-term with terms starting in January, April, July and October.

The live session dates for the July 2022 quarter-term are as follows: Wednesday, July 6, 2022 through Tuesday, September 13, with exam week running through Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Live sessions are scheduled during exam week.

Full-time residence in Syracuse, NY is not required. Qualifications
PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree (required). Significant teaching and/or professional experience in the field. Job Specific Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree (required) in Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related discipline. Additional qualifications include:

• Teaching experience or significant professional experience in a related field
• Experience with instructional design and online teaching preferred
• The ability to be self-directed with broadly-defined limits on assignments
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written

Candidates will have:

• A demonstrated ability to interact effectively and efficiently with diverse people in a highly multidisciplinary environment
• Interest in learning to use technological tools to engage students in a virtual classroom environment

Responsibilities
Conduct discussion topics for each week’s live session, based on the instructional lead’s direction from material covered asynchronously, potential questions that may have come from students, items in the news that may apply to course concepts, case and/or article discussions, how students are doing on assignments, and etc.

• View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session.
• Meet all designated class periods.
• Grade any assignments and exams that the lead instructor has developed as part of the course for your section(s) based on instructions/rubrics provided in a timely manner.
• Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
• Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Support curriculum development and iteration led by course lead.
• Student support, including online advising and office hours.
• Coordinate with instructional lead and other section instructors of the same course online or on-campus.
