Job Summary:
The Associate Director of the Center for Student Engagement,
Activities, and Leadership, Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity
and Sorority Life works with the Director to enhance and improve
student engagement and leadership at Miami University. Through
supervision of Fraternity and Sorority Life staff, advisement of
student leaders and the oversight of leadership programs, the
Associate Director works with students, campus partners,
alumni(ae), faculty/staff and inter/national organizations to
improve student organizations and the fraternity and sorority
community at Miami University.
Known as the “Mother of Fraternities”, Miami University strives to
build a Model Fraternity/Sorority Community and is made up of 53
chapters and over 5,000 students. The Center for Student
Engagement, Activities, and Leadership is committed to relationship
building; values-based education and leadership development. The
associate director will play a critical role in the development and
implementation of fraternity standards. The associate director will
be an energetic and dedicated individual who will work
intentionally to advance the fraternal movement and support the
personal development of all students at Miami University.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Exercise collaborative leadership within the Center and the
Cliff Office to ensure coordination of signature programs and
Center wide events.
Oversees student advising and management of the fraternity and
sorority chapter services team and chapter advising
Provide supervision for at least one assistant director and
provide supplementary support for additional assistant directors,
graduate assistants, and practicum students
Provides direct advisement and support to the council presidents
of the Panhellenic Association, the National Pan-Hellenic Council,
the Multicultural Greek Council, and the Interfraternity
Council
Provides direct advisement and support to the council judicial
and risk management leadership positions in the Panhellenic
Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Multicultural Greek
Council, and the Interfraternity Council
Oversees the Interfraternity Council executive board and
implementation of fraternity strategic initiatives and
standards
Serves as a chapter services liaison advising chapters, working
with national headquarters staff and local chapter and housing
corporation officers
Oversees and manages the IFC VP of Facilities and the Second Year
Exemption process for fraternities and property management
Provide leadership for the development and implementation of
leadership development retreats and community service events
Assist the Director in marketing and communication efforts for
the Center
Responsible for relationship building, resource development and
support to local and national housing corporations and fraternity
house directors
Assists in the production, collection, and management of accurate
membership records, recruitment statistics, and scholarship
reports
Supports and maintains regular communication and collaborative
relationships with various constituents with the City of Oxford
community and the Division of Student Life and other University
offices
Supervise, hire, and train graduate students, practicum students,
summer interns, and student workers.
Assists the Director in providing leadership for the Center for
Student Engagement, Activities, and Leadership in establishing and
fulfilling its mission and strategic priorities; and in conducting
daily operations and responsibilities
Other duties as assigned, provided they support the mission of
the Center for Student Engagement, Activities, and Leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel/ Student Affairs
or related field required
Three (3) to five (5) years professional experience working in
Student Activities and/or Fraternity and Sorority Life
Desired Qualifications:
Supervisory experience of graduate students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and effective application of collegiate leadership
development theory
Experience in fraternity and sorority advising, program/event
planning, leadership development, alcohol education and/or hazing
prevention is required
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written
communication skills
Knowledge of best practices and ability to infuse research with
practical experience to create intentional leadership programs for
fraternity and sorority life
Must have outstanding leadership, management and interpersonal
skills to relate and work with a variety of faculty, students,
parents, staff and community members
Willingness to work in a team oriented and collaborative
environment
Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and
weekends
