Job Summary

The Athletics Compliance Coordinator supports the Director of Compliance in the development, implementation, and monitoring of all systems designed to ensure compliance related to student-athlete admissions, initial and continuing eligibility, staff rules education, and NCAA, ASUN Conference, and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) rules and regulations.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Develops and provides education and training regarding compliance rules and regulations. Presents training during monthly compliance educational workshops and maintains regular communication with Athletic Department staff members regarding issues of concern.
  • Notifies coaches of recruiting calendar periods and other events to ensure proper adherence to NCAA rules. Prepares monthly and quarterly compliance newsletters.
  • Researches and investigates NCAA rule interpretations, applications, and past precedents for waiver or hardship submissions that are relevant to current departmental concerns.
  • Coordinates student-athlete continuing academic eligibility certification in collaboration with the Director of Compliance, Associate AD/Director of the Student-Athlete Resource Center, University Registrar, and college campus advisors. Maintains student-athlete certification files to include preparing a certification summary sheet, internal degree worksheet (to be prepared and maintained by an Athletic Academic Coordinator), and, if appropriate, a transfer articulation and transfer evaluation.
  • Oversees initial eligibility and official/unofficial visit approval ensuring the proper reporting and recording of visits is in compliance with NCAA DI recruiting policies and procedures. Communicates NCAA Eligibility Center status and remaining NCAA Eligibility Center task list items to coaching staff members. Identifies potential non-qualifiers of prospective student-athletes prior to offering athletic grant in aid.
  • Assists in transcript articulation and transfer evaluation, ensuring all incoming transfer students meet NCAA eligibility requirements for immediate competition.
  • Assists with coordinating programs and services for prospective and enrolled student-athletes that are focused on admission, eligibility, and compliance.
  • Assists with prospective student-athlete admissions, updates admission checklist items and identifies potential athletic special admit exceptions.
  • Provides training assistance and technical support to all Athletics Department staff members using ARMS software. Coordinates the submission of ARMS reports.
  • Attends monthly Academic Advisor Council meetings and provides continuing education on NCAA continuing eligibility rules and policies to relevant campus staff.
  • Inputs, updates, and verifies information entered in CAi or equivalent software for purposes of maintaining accurate squad lists and Academic Progress Rate (APR) reporting.
  • Provides recommendations regarding policies and procedures for service delivery.
  • Communicates frequently with NCAA Eligibility Center staff and NCAA and ASUN/CCSA representatives on issues related to assigned duties.
  • Complies with all university, ASUN Conference, or Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) regulations as applicable, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN Conference, and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • One year of full-time professional experience in a higher education athletics department related to the position.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of NCAA, ASUN, and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) rules and regulations as they pertain to the job duties.
  • Knowledge of effective decision-making and problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, instruct and communicate complex rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of colleagues, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse community of coaches, administrators, student-athletes, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
  • Ability to represent the university in a professional manner at all times.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information at all times.
  • Ability to learn ARMS, Compliance Assistant internet (CAi) or equivalent and Workday software.
Salary Range: $36,000-$40,000
