The Department of Gastroenterology is seeking a Clinic Coordinator who wil work in collaboration with the Ambulatory Services Manager and will coordinate the day-to-day clinic operations. This role assists with establishing policies and procedures and recommends changes when needed. Troubleshoots and resolves problems as they arise. Ensures patient visits and procedures are pre-authorized by third party payers, managed care organizations, and HMO's. Works with others in a team environment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Resolves scheduling conflicts and maintains clinic patient flow.
  • Conducts patient interviews regarding clinic fees, billing problems, and insurance information.
  • Researches issues relating to billing or charge capture, discusses issues with appropriate staff and/or physicians, and takes necessary measures to resolve issues.
  • Resolves patient problems or refers patients to appropriate resources.
  • Intervenes, as necessary, on issues relating to patient complaints, health care providers' concerns, and operational issues, and takes measures to correct situation or ensures appropriate personnel are involved.
  • Prepares and maintains clinic statistics and reports using database or spreadsheet software. Develops reports to track referral patterns, data regarding physician availability, appointment waiting periods, and unkept appointments.
  • Monitors clinic compliance with quality assurance guidelines and makes arrangements for implementation.
  • Ensures that clinical equipment is maintained in adequate working order and schedules maintenance.
  • Organizes and orders supplies as needed

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three years related experience.
  • Requires an understanding of changing reimbursement policies and third party reimbursement.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Patient Service Coordinator/Certified Medical Assistant from a JHU recognized Institution.
  • 2 years’ experience in clinical or medical research setting.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail orientated, self-motivated.
  • Ability to be flexible in work conditions, hours and work well in team setting.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in word processing, Database, and spreadsheet software- ability to use a laptop and personal computer.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills- interviewing techniques required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to function independently with high degree of motivation essential.

Physical Requirements:

    Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing on feet at intermittent times. Ability to use a keyboard and move about. Ability to see and hear within normal parameters. Ability to travel within 30 miles radius to other medical facilities as required.

Starting Salary Range: $17.59 - $24.80/hr (commensurate with experience)

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
