Facilities Management is seeking a Custodial Trainer who will report to and work under the supervision of the Facilities Management Training Manager. Is responsible for instructing Facilities Environmental Care (EVC)/School of Medicine (SOM) employees, Custodians, Technicians and supervisors on work performance and quality standards that meet service expectations and achieve department objectives and goals. Works with the Training Manager and EVC/SOM Supervisors and Managers to identifying instruction needs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works with Training Manager and training supervisors to organize and prioritize work to meet changing priorities, and makes decisions within the scope of authority and established guidelines.
  • Follows work schedules, instruction materials, and department procedures
  • Coordinates instruction sessions by scheduling and confirming attendance and reserving and preparing instruction areas.
  • Updates and maintains instruction materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Trains Associates, Custodians and Technicians on following established procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies, providing customer satisfaction, ensuring patient safety, using interpersonal and communication skills, and completing paperwork.
  • Provides specialized instruction to Associates, Custodians and Technicians on performing cleaning services involving, offices, laboratories, classrooms, animal service facilities, auditoriums, conference rooms, restrooms, utility rooms, corridors and all hospital areas.
  • Provides specialized instruction regarding removing, separating and transporting regulated medical, regular, and bulk waste.
  • Provides specialized instruction to Floor Technicians on performing carpet extraction and bonneting, floor stripping, scrubbing and burning, and crystalizing and diamond cutting terrazzo flooring and other floor maintenance services.
  • Administers instruction assessments through checks on learning and observing and scoring practical exercises.
  • Observes and assesses learner performance.
  • Provides assessment feedback to EVC/SOM employees, custodians, technicians and supervisor. Documents, tracks and reports instruction results and outcomes to the Training Manager and Training Supervisors.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in the current departmental systems and processes and contributes ideas and suggestions for solutions to the current system problems.
  • Responds to urgent, impromptu and unplanned situations by assessing their level of importance, instituting appropriate action and informing appropriate management.
  • Prepares incident/attendance reports as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED required, and a minimum of two years of environmental care/services or related work experience preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of one year of experience in a unionized environment.
  • Minimum of six months of experience instructing/coaching, training others preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to operate general office and communications equipment, including personal computers, audiovisual equipment, and EVC/SOM equipment.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Basic understanding of technical aspects of cleaning, floor care and trash removal in an academic/research environment required.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards required.
  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to read and understand English in order to follow instructions, job assignments, schedules, and chemical labels.
  • Ability to utilize and understand universal safety precautions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions that occur during instruction sessions.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret technical instructional methods and materials and administer learning assessment and diagnostic tools.
  • Must be able to draw accurate conclusions from data, track trends and determine solutions.
  • Must be able to work with managers and supervisors to assist in accurate tracking of performance objectives through competencies.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in normal office environment with limited physical discomforts due to noise, temperature, dust and the like.
  • May spend extended periods of time working at computer station.
  • Works in instruction environments with exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents. May stand, walk, bend or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work may require the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus.
  • Work requires attention to detail, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.
  • Work requires ability to load/unload and transport/position equipment and materials weighing 50 pounds.
  • Work may require working rotating shifts and weekends.
  • Requires working rotating Holidays.

Starting Salary Range: $15.41 - $21.21/hr (commensurate with experience)
