Position Overview:

The Director of Student Accountability & Conflict Resolution is responsible for the administration of the University's student conduct program, including maintenance, updating and revision of the University Code of Student Conduct. The Director is also responsible for providing training to staff who administer the policies and procedures of the conduct system in Residence Life and other areas. The Director offers alternative forms of dispute resolution, when appropriate, and assists in coordinating the University's response to emergency situations involving students and assures compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

The Director compiles and analyzes statistics to monitor effectiveness of programs and address issues. The Director conducts and leads others in student-involved investigations. The Director of Student Accountability & Conflict Resolution serves as an investigator for the University’s Title IX grievance process in instances of allegations of gender-based discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct. The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; occasional nights and weekends required.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversees administration, leadership, and management of the University’s Office of Student Accountability & Conflict Resolution, including supervision of professional staff.
  • Oversees and engages in investigations of individual student and student organization conduct cases, including academic misconduct .
  • Serves as an investigator within the University’s Title IX processes .
  • Adjudicates student conduct matters subject to informal resolution processes in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Serves as the primary representative for the Office Student Accountability & Conflict Resolution for the University's Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT).
  • Leads the Felony Admissions application committee process.
  • Responsible for the annual review of the Code of Student Conduct including any changes, edits, revisions and required updates that need to be made.
  • Recommends appropriate policies and policy revisions to respond to new legislation and regulations, state policy requirements, and best business practices related to student conduct.
  • Gathers and analyzes statistics to identify systemic issues that could lead to problems and makes recommendations on addressing issues identified.
  • Provides and/or coordinates required awareness and educational (prevention) programs.
  • Provides campus training and orientation programs about student conduct resolution services to new faculty, new students, and others.
  • Trains and oversees the university-wide Committee on Student Conduct.
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget.
  • Serves on divisional and institutional committees as assigned.
  • Acts as liaison with various on-campus constituencies to include Title IX, faculty, Housing and Campus Police, as well as off-campus stakeholders to include law enforcement, City and District Attorney's office.
  • Occasional night and/or weekend work as required to meet objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience required.
  • A least 2 of these years must be directly related to professional experience with students, student conduct processes, decision-making, and/or an understanding of needs both inside and outside of the classroom concerning the rights and responsibilities of students.
  • Evidence of an effective leadership style, understanding, and emphasis on restorative approaches, social justice, inclusion within conduct processes, and a background demonstrating success in dealing with students, parents, administrators, and faculty.
  • Experience and strong evidence of an appreciation for restorative approaches to student conduct with an emphasis on social justice practices.
Experience Preferred:
  • 3+ years’ experience in university Student Conduct & Title IX investigation.
  • Master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Computer literacy and database experience are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required.
  • Excellent organizational, management, budgetary, and leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to manage and complete tasks in a timely manner, which includes maintaining accurate records and files, is required.
  • Ability to work in an environment that involves conflict management, mediation skills, variable hours, and occasional weekend activities.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations.
  • Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership in prior career responsibilities.
