Tenure-Track Position

Middlesex College seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to provide instruction, develop curricula, assess learning, and provide advising to students in the Automotive Technology Program.

Advising, learning assessment, employer outreach, and curricula development starting in Spring 2022, with instruction beginning in Fall 2022.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Effectively teaches automotive technology courses related to the eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) core content areas: Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train & Axles, Suspension & Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.
  2. Develops curricula and provides revisions to program and course learning outcomes upon program review.
  3. Develops and maintains course syllabi, selects appropriate textbooks, and prepares lecture/lab materials.
  4. Maintains safety standards in shop areas to ensure that students are trained and follow appropriate safety practices.
  5. Makes recommendations for the purchase of new shop equipment and safety certification of existing equipment.
  6. Assists in recruiting and marketing the program to prospective students.
  7. Participates in professional development activities to remain current in the automotive field and maintain current automotive credentials.
  8. Conducts student learning assessments and takes appropriate action for continuous program improvement.
  9. In collaboration with the Department Chair, maintains the program’s National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) Accreditation.
  10. Establishes relationships with local automotive dealerships and repair shops for student cooperative work opportunities.
  11. Establishes and manages an Automotive Technology Advisory Board (ATAB) to ensure timeliness of curriculum and training.
  12. Recruits ATAB members from local automotive service centers and dealerships.
  13. Works with dealerships to secure training vehicles and equipment.
  14. Visits cooperative worksites during cycles when students are present to confirm they are receiving an appropriate level of training.
  15. Participates in department meetings, college committees, task forces, and open houses.
  16. The position includes a teaching load of 15 contact hours per semester. Related responsibilities include maintaining five office hours per week for student advisement and tutoring, as well as participation in departmental, divisional, and college-wide activities.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology or ASE Certification in the eight core ASE content areas
  • Master’s degree in a field related to Automotive Technology
  • Five years field experience working as an automotive technician
  • Experience working with service managers of new car dealerships and owners/managers of independent repair facilities securing cooperative work positions for students
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with diverse populations coming from varied cultures, backgrounds and socio-economic status
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite and learning management systems (Canvas) to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses as well as other technology used in the instruction setting
  • Ability to work with and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ASE certification
  • Community College teaching experience

SCHEDULE: Ten (10) Month Position
