JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates all laboratories in the Physics department. Supervise, organize, and participate in the teaching laboratories. This will include performing a variety of technical tasks related to physics laboratory operations including the procurement, testing, and maintenance of scientific equipment, and inventorying and purchasing equipment and supplies to facilitate teaching and research objectives. Furthermore, the laboratory coordinator will be aware of the content of these courses on a weekly basis, will be actively involved in organizing equipment, and will troubleshoot laboratory activities. The laboratory coordinator will also facilitate student involvement in the research laboratories and perform appropriate duties at the request of the faculty PI.

REPORTS TO: Chair, Physics Department

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Assumes primary responsibility for:
  1. Scientific equipment assembly, calibration, and maintenance, including software.
  2. Laboratory setup
  3. Supervision of student assistants
  4. Assist faculty in setup for in class demonstrations.
  5. Designing and developing new experiments and demonstrations.
  6. Regularly organizes all laboratory spaces within the department.
  7. Performs related duties as assigned by the Physics Department Chair.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Advanced computer based laboratory data acquisition and analysis skills.
  2. Experience in handling physics laboratory equipment.
  3. Physics and integrated circuits based laboratory experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to setup and test the experimental arrangements.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Master's Degree in Physics, Instrumentation, or related engineering discipline plus.
  2. Laboratory experience.
