Associate Director, Content Marketing

About the Opportunity

The Associate Director of Content Marketing reports to the Creative Director and plays an integral team role in developing and furthering the content strategy and brand of the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR). As a champion for content marketing and its value, this position will also conduct and use marketing research planning, and coordinate and produce marketing campaigns and communications for alumni that will maximize outreach and create a stronger Northeastern community.

The Associate Director, Content Marketing will focus on:

  • Establishing and executing overall content marketing strategy for OAR, tying together multiple engagement offerings, alumni stories, and thought leadership
  • Writing marketing copy for email and web and manage all short and long-form written stories
  • Creating and enforcing editorial brand guidelines across marketing channels ensuring all materials stay on message and on brand
  • Working with the team to develop and implement effective omni-channel marketing campaigns for events, philanthropic opportunities, and content (alumni stories, benefits, news etc)
  • Overseeing the content production process including effective delegation to internal or external resources where appropriate; content includes copy writing, alumni written profiles, blog posts, and managing the Northeastern Next Podcast
  • Leveraging market research to evaluate the perception of the OAR brand
  • Implementing personas as a targeted marketing tool, assessing effectiveness and refining as needed


The Associate Director, Content Marketing must represent the university and the OAR/AG team in a professional and enthusiastic manner with a special focus on both internal and external customer service. As a member of the Advancement division, it is essential for the Associate Director, Content Marketing to understand and actively support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community. This position is required to perform their duties, in person, on the Boston campus. Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. Occasional ground and air travel, and a flexible schedule are required. While the primary role of this position is to focus on marketing and communications, it will also require the candidate to assist at several OAR events throughout the year and other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree a plus. At least four to six years' experience in writing and content creation with story-telling and marketing communication skills a plus. Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills are required. Strong research and analytics skills are necessary to identify trends in the marketplace. Knowledge of Salesforce.com, or similar CRM system, and analytics tools, is a plus. The ideal candidate will pay extreme attention to detail, possess strong time management skills, have a high level of self-confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, and self-motivation, along with the energy to undertake diverse responsibilities.

This position also requires an individual who consistently demonstrates an innovative and flexible approach to all facets of their work. The incumbent will have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, juggling multiple projects and priorities at one time. A strong focus on customer service is a must. Experience working in higher education a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Calendar & Process
  • Establish and execute an overall content strategy and calendar for OAR, tying together our multiple engagement offerings, positioning and marketing in a unified manner.
  • Create and enforce copywriting and editorial guidelines ensuring all materials stay on message and reinforce our brand promise.
  • Work with the OAR team to develop and implement effective omni-channel marketing campaigns for OAR, college-based, and general university events, programs, benefits, philanthropic opportunities and services.
  • Organize and track all original and shared content streams.


Content Creation
  • Oversee the content production process for communications including effective delegation of projects to internal and external resources where appropriate.
  • Responsible for copyediting, written profiles, blog posts/articles, the Northeastern Next Podcast and content strategy and execution.


Market Research & Analytics
  • Conduct market research—both primary and secondary—to evaluate the perception of the OAR brand among our constituents, use personas, and other resources to guide future strategic marketing efforts.
  • Analyze results of marketing campaigns to convey successes or drive strategic repositioning, if necessary.


Brand Strategy & Innovation
  • Support the brand strategy with an emphasis on creating cohesive and dynamic content and writing across OAR/AG channels (including web, email, social, print, and podcast).
  • Rely on data to drive strategy and direction of brand messaging, in close work with University External Affairs colleagues.
