The Assistant Director for Affinity and Domestic Engagement is a valuable member of the Alumni Relations (AR) Engagement Initiatives team who works to ensure alumni form and maintain a lifelong relationship with AR and the university.

Under the direction of the Director for Affinity and Domestic Engagement, the Assistant Director will support the overall AR domestic and affinity engagement strategy to meet the needs of alumni through education, events, and activities for assigned affinity groups and networks. The assistant director will manage a portfolio of networks, including but not limited to regional location, organizational-based, and cultural experience-based. The ideal candidate will develop and cultivate relationships with Northeastern volunteers that will grow this network and continue to enhance their connection to Northeastern.

The Assistant Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement will focus on:
  • Creating an annual engagement plan, in partnership with the Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement, that details the creation, execution and management of new and existing networks designed to meet the needs of alumni and the university.
  • Assisting in creating, planning, coordinating, and producing various AR programs and act as the staff lead for a variety of programs. Some may include: ArtsAlive!, Beanpot activities, Co-op Mentoring, Husky Fitness, Husky Hands On, and others as assigned.
  • Conducting personal visits throughout the year to enhance AR's understanding of its alumni needs and goals, while detailing meeting notes and determining follow up strategies to support continued connection.
  • Collaborating with Alumni Relations team members to enhance the existing relationships between affinity networks and domestic and international networks by developing and executing effective plans to establish, launch, and sustain new engagement opportunities.
  • Working to provide programs and services to meet the growing needs of Northeastern University, its alumni, parents, and current students. Additionally, other duties and special projects may be assigned.

The Assistant Director must be able to represent the university and the AR team in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. As a member of the Advancement Division, the Assistant Director of Affinity and Domestic Engagement needs to understand and support philanthropy's role in engaging the Northeastern community.

Frequent work on weekday evenings and some weekends along with occasional travel are required. This position is required to perform their duties, in person, on the Boston campus.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. At least three to five years of experience in a combination of planning and producing all aspects of events and volunteer management. The ideal candidate will have excellent project management, organizational, communications (written and oral), interpersonal, public speaking, and computer skills; they will be detail-oriented with a high level of self-confidence and enthusiasm; a self-starter who has a strong customer service focus; and the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with alumni, volunteers, students, staff, faculty, vendors and external entities.
