The Director of Budget & Finance handles the administration and budget requirements for the execution of the approved Auxiliary Services operating budget. This role serves as the liaison to the University Budget Office to coordinate all budget functions as required by administrative procedures, directives, laws, and policy decisions. In addition, this position evaluates and forecasts revenue and expenses based on financial trends and input from unit leadership. The Director of Budget & Finance plans the optimal allocation of financial resources, which will ensure that critical needs are met while maintaining a balanced budget as well as prepares operational expenditure plans and narratives. This position also meets regularly with the Directors and other staff to clarify the budgetary requirements and answer questions related to the preparation of the budget to assist the programs in the preparation of their requests. Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required, and a master’s degree in business administration ( MBA ) or a professional designation such as certified public accountant ( CPA ) or certified management accountant ( CMA ) is preferred. Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued. The position generally requires at least 10 years of experience in accounting or finance. Job Specific Qualifications

  • Ability to manage and analyze business procedures, identify new revenue sources, and streamline operations.
  • Budget preparation, financial analysis and financial forecasting as well as prepare, analyze, and distribute internal profit and lost statements.
  • The ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, anticipate and meet other’s needs, and inspire confidence, resulting in a coordinated collective action.
Work with key stakeholders to ensure that the strategic plan is implemented, and outcomes are achieved. Directs and leads the Unit’s physical space planning and construction needs and serves as liaison to the various University offices and construction consultants. Develops and maintains the long-range capital spending plan of approximately $20 million annually. Provides strategic counsel to the Senior Associate Vice President ( SAVP ), members of the Auxiliary Services leadership team and other senior and executive leaders of the University.

Works with the SAVP and supports the department’s long-term budget planning and forecasting activities, and the coordination of the department’s activities and operations. Leads and reviews the unit’s strategy and implementation of financial, human and technology resources to ensure alignment with university policy, practice, and strategic initiatives. Makes decisions concerning financial, human and technology resources to support those plans and supports all unit operations teams.

Manages internal controls to assure that University policies are followed. Provides direction to Auxiliary Services’ financial operations who provide oversight for $160+ million in annual revenues and expenses. Strategizes with the SAVP of Auxiliary Services and collaborates with business unit directors to plan, scope and budget major renovations and equipment purchases for retail dining and catering services. Reconciles the Auxiliary Services division reserve accounts on a monthly basis.

Serves as liaison to the Office of Human Resources. Ensures that staff have the resources, tools, and supports to succeed; the processes to enable success; and the ability to track and measure operational excellence and outcomes to ensure the Unit is meeting commitments.

Perform process improvement and efficiency analysis to provide exceptional service to students, in accordance with University Mission. Leads and supports organizational change efforts designed to achieve strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and business process improvement goals established by the university/unit. Leads projects and conducts studies to identify opportunities to enhance effectiveness within the Unit. Serve as an Auxiliary Services liaison and/or lead/co-lead on campus- wide committees, including but not limited to IT Governance, crisis management, safety, security and site management and other committees related to operational needs of the University. Works with business unit directors on identifying efficiencies and cost control measures, processes and systems in order to improve bottom line results. Identify revenue enhancement opportunities such as new service venues, expanded product offerings and incorporating the latest trends and best practices.Monitors financial budgets, approve operating expenses, and inventory levels to assure financial goals are met.
