JOB PURPOSE: Pomona College is seeking its next Assistant Director, Sustainability to help the College foster a culture of sustainability across campus and achieve its sustainability goals. Under the leadership of the Director of Sustainability and Energy Management, the Sustainability Manager helps provide leadership to the College’s sustainability programs and develops, implements, and assesses efforts for the integration of sustainability throughout campus operations and programs. The position helps develop, enhance, and maintain environmental stewardship within the campus community and among its constituencies and helps develop strategies for resource conservation and efficiency, community engagement and outreach, and strategic planning for sustainability. The position is an ex-officio member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability and collaborates with several campus departments, The Claremont Colleges, The City of Claremont, and other colleges and universities. The Sustainability Manager oversees the various programs, activities, and services of the Sustainability Office and supervises a team of seasonal part-time student employees, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Licenses/Certificates: Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or related technical/engineering discipline is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of sustainability, resource management, program implementation and management, event planning and/or sustainable building design is required, preferably in a higher education setting.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.  Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required.  Travel may be required.  Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
