Department Description:  Instructional and Information Systems (IIS) provides core information technology support for public health faculty, staff and students. We collaborate with technology partners inside the school and across campus to ensure that our School is getting the best from technology.

Position Description:  The primary purpose of the position is to lead a team of 4 permanent staff that provides instructional design and expert technology consulting and support to Gillings faculty on the effective use of technologies for teaching & learning. This requires leadership in the design and delivery of a creative program of activities to assist faculty, such as 1:1 sessions, small groups, and a variety of other possibilities. It requires substantial instructional technology expertise to monitor, assess, select and deploy technologies to meet current and future needs. It requires experience designing and delivering course content in residential, online and hybrid formats. This position works collaboratively with faculty, other instructional technology experts, and other technical staff to build long-range strategies that ensure Gillings faculty are maximizing use of technologies for teaching & learning.* eligible for hybrid/remote work*

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:  Hands-on experience in multiple areas of educational technology in higher education including instructional design (learning experience design), learning management systems (LMSs), as well as tools for lecture capture, multimedia and video production, remote conferencing and collaboration, and production of web-based course tools such as instructional websites. Track record of anticipating and monitoring emerging technology trends for teaching & learning as well as evaluating and testing new tools. Experience working on both PC and Mac platforms.Experience designing and delivering solutions to support active learning, both synchronous and asynchronous.Experience with digital accessibility standards and/or delivering accessible course content. Strong customer service orientation and willingness to take a hands-on approach.Ability to work effectively with a diverse community made up of individuals from a variety of disciplines with a wide range of pedagogical, organizational and technological skills.Ability to work both independently as an individual contributor, and collaboratively as a team leader or member.Experience in project management, including managing time, establishing priorities and meeting milestones and deliverables.Excellent presentation skills are essential.

Education Requirements:  Master’s and 1-2 years’ experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years’ experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.

Required Licenses/Certifications:  

Qualifications and Experience:  Experience working with an OPM (online program management) provider is a plus.Experience with Quality Matters rubric and peer review process for course quality is a plus.Teaching experience is a plus.
