Lecturer and Director of the Hanley Center for ESG Investing

Position Summary:

The University of Dayton's Department of Economics & Finance invites applicants for a new position as Lecturer and Director of the newly rebranded Hanley Center for Environmental, Sustainable, and Governance (ESG) Investing.

This position provides an exciting opportunity for experienced finance professionals to educate and lead students in the practice of ESG Investing. We are looking for someone passionate about sustainability and willing to create opportunities for the University of Dayton’s students to learn more about this style of investing. The position’s primary responsibilities will be to oversee the Hanley Center for ESG Investing and teach in the Department of Economics & Finance.

As director, the position will lead the Hanley Center for ESG Investing. The center's mission includes providing undergraduate students experiences in the processes and techniques of ESG investing. This is primarily achieved through student management of the Hanley Sustainability Fund , where volunteer student managers and analysts make investment decisions consistent with the fund’s sustainability mandate. The director will have several responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Supporting and educating the students as they make investment decisions to achieve the investment mandate using current techniques for ESG investing.
• Ensuring appropriate investment policies and procedures are followed.
• Organizing extracurricular experiential activities for students. This could include site visits, guest speakers, volunteer projects, or other activities appropriate for students interested in ESG investing.
• Collaborating with others across campus to advance the university's mission as it relates to ESG.

As a lecturer, this position will also teach in the Department of Economics & Finance. The department offers an undergraduate and graduate degree in finance, and supports the School of Business Administration’s MBA programs. This position’s teaching load will be three courses in each of the fall and spring semesters, which could include the following classes: FIN 301 (Introduction to Financial Management), FIN 360 (Investments), or FIN 460 (Portfolio Management).

Other responsibilities include service and support of non-teaching initiatives for the department, School, University, and/or profession, and collaborative engagement with students and colleagues. Individuals serving five years or more in the lecturer role are eligible to be considered for promotion in accordance with the School of Business Administration’s and University’s recently implemented lecturer promotion policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate Degree in finance, economics, business, statistics, or other related discipline and 10 years of experience in portfolio management;

or

• In lieu of graduate degree; 20 years of recent professional experience; 10 years of professional experience in a senior position successfully managing at least $1 billion in assets; one documented professional certification related to financial management (e.g. CFA);
• Articulated commitment to environmental, sustainable, and governance (ESG) investing; and
• Effective written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Graduate degree and successful experience managing a portfolio of at least $100 million
• Chartered Financial Analyst credential holder
• Successful experience with one or more of the following:
  • Managing an ESG-focused portfolio
  • Industry practices related to ESG Investing
  • Teaching finance courses at the college level
  • Administrative responsibilities, including budget and strategic planning
  • Building and leading investment teams
  • Mentoring, teaching, and/or collaborating in socially and culturally diverse communities
• Effective presentation skills.
• Proficient analytical and quantitative skills
• Effective oral communication skills
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.
