Researches, reports, writes and produces multimedia spot and features for Houston Public Media (HPM) on-air and digital platforms. Serves as on-air program host, under general supervision. Individual position may be specific to either tv or radio operations.Job Duties

  1. Provides aesthetic and creative direction of the production process for live and recorded public media programs.
  2. Conceives, researches, develops and executes ideas and concepts into program content.
  3. Provides on-air hosting and verbal delivery consistent with highest professional broadcast standards: National Public Radio-NPR
  4. Operates station broadcast and production equipment in a professional manner consistent with NPR standards.
  5. Advance the stations public image at community outreach events.
  6. Participates in station fund-raising campaigns and special events.
  7. May assist station management by training other on-air talent or by serving as a team lead.
  8. Curates the HPM website and shares content on various social media platforms, to include Facebook, Twitter, etc..
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 3-7 years experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three to seven (3-7) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.

Reporter 1- Bachelors and 3 years of experience

Reporter 2- Bachelors and 5 years experience

Sr. Reporter- Bachelors and 7 years of experience

Notes to Applicant: We're building our new Enterprise Unit with a team of Beat Reporters to investigate and produce in-depth news stories for radio, podcast, and digital audiences. You'll develop a beat and generate original story ideas through building reliable sources, data-driven reporting and developing expertise in your area of coverage. The Beat Reporter will be tenacious, organized, driven to delve into a story and committed to the craft. You will produce in-depth audio stories on a regular basis for multiple platforms. You may be juggling multiple stories simultaneously for short-term and long-term projects and deadlines. Strong writing skills are a must. Audio experience preferred, but not required. We're looking for a seasoned journalist with at least three years of experience and a bachelor's degree who can hit the ground running. Beats are to be determined based on our strategic needs and your specialization and skills. Beats could include things like Education & Families, Criminal Justice, City Hall & Government, Suburban & Rural Communities, etc. The candidate should be able to collaborate, share resources, and work easily with the unit's Executive Producer and its team of reporters. We're interested in a journalist who is clear about their mission to inform the public through fact-gathering and vivid storytelling that improves the lives of our listeners.
