Information Technology Services at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the ITS Business Office Accountant (full-time, 12 month) position. The ITS Business Office Accountant will maintain the departmental financial process and records to include processing of all required financial transactions, maintaining the department’s internal financial management systems, and the audit and reconciliation of department’s internal financial systems records to University’s records. Provide timely and accurate financial and budgetary reports and analysis of the department’s budgets/operating units.

Required Education: Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

Required Qualifications: Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to record and manipulate data and produce reports using word processing and spreadsheet software, especially the Microsoft Office Suite programs. Demonstrated ability to maintain high accuracy and the processing of a high volume of transactions. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain electronic and paper filing systems. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective customer service and problem-resolution techniques in serving diverse internal and external customers. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete tasks with limited direction or supervision. Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial facts and figures. Demonstrated ability to prepare management financial reports and analysis. Some experience as an accountant, bookkeeper or other related job maintaining or processing financial records/books and preparing financial reports and analysis of financial transactions.

Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia procurement system, rules, and processes. Undergraduate degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Conditions of Employment: 40-hour work week Monday-Friday; Some evenings and weekends
