The Director Provides Leadership, management, and supervision of all personnel, systems, and off-campus facilities for the Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail Technology Programs. The Director is also responsible for ensuring program rigor and compliance with the Kansas Board of Cosmetology.



Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Accreditation/Compliance: 1. Oversees program curriculum, clinical procedures, and program requirements to ensure compliance with the Kansas Board of Cosmetology (KBOC), which is the licensing entity that approves JCCC Cosmetology related program offerings. a. Performance is acceptable when: a. Salon operations, curriculum, and client experiences meet all state regulations. b. Impromptu KBOC field inspections yield no findings. c. Required compliance and follow-up reports are submitted as requested by the Kansas Board of Cosmetology. d. Curriculum is current, meets accrediting and governing bodies criteria, and the competencies are reflective of industry input provided by the advisory board and other constituencies. e. Faculty are actively engaged in maintaining curriculum currency, presenting change proposals through the curriculum review and approval processes as necessary
  • Leadership, Supervision, & Management: 2. Provides vision and strategic direction for the Cosmetology related programs within the context of Johnson County Community College's Mission, Vision, and Values. b. Performance is acceptable when: a. Shared vision and strategic goals are utilized to encourage program enhancement. b. Program goals center around student success and are closely aligned with the assessment of student learning outcomes. c. Outcomes assessment, including Program Review and vitality reports, are submitted in a timely manner. d. Opportunities are created to engage faculty and staff with constituent groups such as industry leaders, advisory committees, community and professional activities and organizations, and other academic and non-academic departments at the college
  • Responsible for effective supervision and management of faculty and staff as well as client safety and satisfaction. c. Performance is acceptable when: a. Faculty, staff, and clients are treated equitably and ethically and all direction of people, processes, information, physical and financial resources are allocated to fulfill the mission, vision, and goals of the college. b. Implements professional development planning and activities that support all faculty members' ability to maintain currency of content knowledge. c. Effectively supervises faculty and staff while managing conflict, personnel performance concerns, and organizational change that contribute to the long-term viability of the program and the college. d. Performs faculty and staff evaluations according to JCCC Policies and Procedures. e. Schedules semester course offerings according to JCCC Policies and Procedures. f. Schedules continuing education offerings, as necessary, according to JCCC Policies and Procedures. g. Oversees all facets of the required clinical experience (salon services) that students are required to participate in and ensures client (community members) safety and satisfaction. h. Solicits information from faculty and staff about techniques and improvements that contribute to the program's collective success. i. Works with faculty and staff to ensure inventory is appropriately supplied to meet classroom and facility needs.
  • Student Recruitment/Client Relations: 4. Leads student recruitment efforts for all three program areas and ensures positive client/community relations. d. Performance is acceptable when: a. Students successfully matriculate through selective admission and pre-registration, retention, graduation and opportunity for placement processes. b. Assists in program and career counseling and recruitment of prospective students. c. Considers current student needs for scheduling of activities, clinical placement, and program policies and procedures. d. Clinical operations, which include faculty, staff, and client interactions and services such that integrity, respectful communication, productivity, and satisfaction remain at the forefront of the salon experience. e. Work collaboratively with college marketing, admissions and student activity groups to effectively increase Cosmetology program awareness.
  • Budgeting/Fiscal Planning & Implementation: 5. Proposes and implements the program's strategic plan and budget including technology and equipment needs, in consultation with faculty and advisory input. e. Performance is acceptable when: a. Annual budgets support programs, client services, staffing, and facilities. b. The selection and maintenance of appropriate product inventory for public sale supports client services. c. Cash and credit card receipts from salon services are accounted for and procedures are in compliance per the JCCC Audit & Advisory Office. d. Program facilities and appropriate security are in place to facilitate a safe, effective learning environment. e. Clinical (salon/classroom) equipment is state-of-the-art and operational.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by - reporting crimes to the designated JCCC Clery Act Officer in accordance with applicable laws, policies and procedures. f. Performance is acceptable when: a. Completing training at least annually on campus safety and crime reporting issues; b. Assisting in the issuance of timely emergency warnings c. Serving as a resource to students, employees and others regarding crime prevention, reporting and victim assistance; and d. Collaborating with the Clery Act Officer, Title IX Team, Clery Act Team and Emergency Preparedness Manager on various campus compliance issues

Required Qualifications
Associates Degree
Current Cosmetology or Esthetics Practitioner License
Current Cosmetology or Esthetics Insurance License
Two plus years of teaching experience in one of the core areas: Esthetics, Cosmetology, or Nail Technology
Three plus years of salon or service industry management experience
Knowledge of the Kansas Board of Cosmetology Regulations
Ability to work closely with state and local professional organizations
Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally
Demonstrated knowledge of the Cosmetology industry, and the role of education in preparing individuals for careers in the fields represented by JCCC's programs
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other division and college administrators, faculty, and staff in the academic and student services branches and continuing education.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated conflict resolution, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills




Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Five plus years of salon management that specifically includes cash handling, client relations, and personnel oversight
Five plus years of teaching experience in one of the core areas
