Position Summary
The Department of Music at Spelman College invites applicants for a part-time accompanist. The successful candidate will serve the department as a part-time accompanist.
Duties: Provide piano accompaniment for weekly rehearsals and student performances, including but not limited to:
1. Matinee performance (Wednesday between 3 and 3:50 pm)
2. Final jury exams
3. Degree recitals and recital hearings
4. Masterclasses
5. New student audition
The ideal candidate is also a collaborative pianist who would assist with the following needs:
● Choir rehearsals and performances
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
● Masters degree in piano or accompanying.
● Strong keyboard and accompanying skills.
● Excellent sight-reading and organizational skills
● 3 years of experience as a collaborative pianist
● Must be able to work under pressure, comply with daily operations, and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
● 2 years of experience working as a college accompanist
● Willingness to be flexible with unexpected adjustments of repertoire or events
● Experience in accompanying advanced and professional musicians
