Winston-Salem State University, located in the Piedmont Triad city of Winston-Salem and is located within short drives to Charlotte and Raleigh. About the Opportunity
Winston-Salem State University seeks serious applicants for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources who will act as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Reporting directly to the Chancellor, is responsible for the administration of all human resource functions for EHRA, SHRA and temporary employees. The CHRO will provide leadership and direction for University human resources functions including organizational development, recruitment and retention, employee relations, compensation, benefit administration, employee recognition, training, performance management and HR information systems. This visible campus leadership role will be responsible for the strategic direction and effectiveness of the University's workforce programs and services for faculty, staff, and students. This position must positively promote the university internally and externally.

The Associate Vice Chancellor and CHRO will:

  • Lead a comprehensive review of current and future university human resource needs and recommend organizational changes to meet those needs.
  • Develop and implement organizational design and system improvements that optimize performance, customer service and accountability.
  • Provide leadership and direction for human resources at the University, manage the operations of the Human Resources office, and manage employees within the Department of Human Resources.
  • Modernize and streamline processes taking full advantage of the Human Resources Information System.
  • Design and develop a training and development program that enhances skills and address institutional objectives and employee needs.
  • Create an environment within human resources that provides quality service to faculty and staff.
  • Assure that the university is compliant with government requirement in all aspects of employment practices.
  • Support the University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through the development and implementation of various programs and initiatives. 

Minimum Qualifications:
Education

A Master’s degree in human resources management, business administration, law or a similar/equivalent program from a regionally accredited college or university.

 

Experience

Five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial and supervisory experience and/or a combination of education and experience. 

Must have some experience in a public college, university or similar setting. 

 

Other Demonstrated Competencies and Expertise

A demonstrated leadership ability that includes creating a positive and productive workplace. 

A demonstrated record in implementing solutions to complex employee issue

Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement.

Strong budgeting and financial management skills. 

Demonstrated knowledge of all programs and services encompassing employment as relates to federal and state regulations.

Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, team building, and leadership skills to enhance human resources programs and policies

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Three or more years’ experience in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system at the institutional level

Demonstrated experience establishing unit metrics and implementing strategic goals

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Credential
