School of Arts
& Creative Industries (SACI)
Our School of Arts and Creative Industries
(SACI) are looking to appoint a new Associate Professor and Head of subject in Screen and
Performing Arts (SPA). As Head of SPA, you will join and
work with colleagues on the School’s Leadership Team who are
collectively responsible for the successful implementation of the
School strategy. The School has an excellent external reputation.
We are currently top UK Modern in every subject we teach. This year
we will be submitting 38 research
staff with two 3* publications and above and will be
submitting in four units of assessment.
The School of Arts & Creative Industries
is a forward looking, dynamic school preparing its students for
employability and responsible citizenship fit for the demands of
the 21st Century.
Situated in the heart of Scotland’s festival
city, Edinburgh, SACI is made up of three subject areas – Screen
& Performing Arts; Media and Humanities; and Art, Design and
Photography. The School is home to just over 1800 students and
about 96 permanent staff plus a range of industry experts and
specialist staff employed on a more casual basis.
At SACI, we are committed to delivering a
personalised learning experience for students, set against an
agenda of inclusivity, employability and sustainability. We
achieved 89% in the last NSS, and we are number one in the UK for
Journalism, and in the top ten for Film and Photography, Media
& Film Studies, English, Design and Music (Sunday Times and
Guardian League Tables). We entered four units of assessment
to the REF and have recently launched two new research centres to
strengthen or research culture.

focus on critical thinking and applying theory to practice relevant
to industry. Our staff maintain strong links to industry with many

Screen &
Performing Arts
Screen and Performing Arts is made up of a
diverse, vibrant group of subject areas that cover film and
television, music, acting and performing arts. Our staff are
deeply committed to helping our students become young professionals
– mature in their thinking, fresh in their approach to their
subject areas and people who would like to use their creativity to
bring about societal changes. Correspondingly, our staff are
deeply committed individuals, very collaborative with great links
into industry. Our students are award winning, with award
winning films like Limbo being produced and directed by our
alumni. Also, being in Edinburgh affords us the exciting
opportunity to engage with all the top festivals on offer –
Edinburgh International Film festival, Edinburgh International TV
Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues
Festival.
We are now seeking to appoint an Associate
Professor Film with a specialism in Film and/ or TV production and
post-production to be Head of Screen and Performing Arts.
The
Role
As an associate professor and Head of Subject
in SPA you will be responsible for a team of circa 35 staff, play a
pivotal role in developing a new Film School for Scotland and will
be expected to lead by example. The School has strong links with
industry and this new role will help support and build these links
to increase research and consultancy income.

webpage. We are seeking to appoint an internationally
recognised scholar who brings an inclusive, collaborative approach
who can evidence the ability to provide academic and people
leadership.
You will be working alongside a specialist
and highly dedicated team of practitioners within the film and
television production curriculum. You will be expected to
contribute to the development, design, leadership and delivery of a
student-centred learning experience that is underpinned by
professional practice and academic scholarship, within your
assigned areas of responsibility. You will also act as Personal
Tutor for students.
Essential:
Doctoral level qualification in a relevant
discipline
Evidenced achievement against the criteria
for Esteem, Innovation, Contribution and Academic Leadership –
please refer to Role Description.
Desirable:
Professional qualifications relevant to
discipline
Ideally HEA membership or a strong
willingness to achieve
membership within 18 months of appointment.
Benefits
Salary: £51,799 to £60,022 per annum
(Grade 7)
